ALASKA HSE ADVISOR

The HSE Advisor serves as the on-site Health, Safety, and Environmental professional supporting drilling and field operations across the Alaska North Slope. This position is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, supporting incident prevention and investigation efforts, and providing leadership and coaching to field personnel on safe work practices.

The HSE Advisor partners closely with rig management, operations leadership, and client representatives to identify hazards, mitigate risk, and ensure safe execution of all work activities.

Location: Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

Rotation: 14x14 or 21x21 - subject to change and rig assignment

Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 5 years of HSE experience supporting drilling, oil and gas, industrial, construction, mining, or related field operations.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, AKOSH, EPA, DOT, and applicable industry safety standards.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
• Experience facilitating training and safety meetings.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
• Ability to travel and work rotational assignments on the Alaska North Slope.
• Ability to successfully complete all Nabors pre-employment and client-specific onboarding requirements, including but not limited to background screening, drug and alcohol testing, medical evaluations, fit-for-duty assessments, respirator qualification and fit testing, H2S training, and any additional customer-required clearances.

Preferred

• Associate''s or Bachelor''s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar certification.
• HAZWOPER Certification.
• Incident Command System (ICS) Training.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
• Previous Alaska North Slope drilling or oilfield experience.

Alaska-Specific Preferred Experience

• North Slope oilfield operations experience.
• Experience supporting drilling, workover, completion, camp, logistics, transportation, or construction operations.
• Familiarity with Arctic operating conditions and winter risk management practices.
• Experience working within operator-client HSE management systems.
• Understanding of rotational workforce environments and remote camp operations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in remote North Slope environments under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and drilling rig structures.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including fall protection equipment.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations and participate in emergency response activities.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to Rig Managers, Toolpushers, and Operations leadership on HSE-related matters.
• Champion Stop Work Authority (SWA) and ensure employees understand and exercise their responsibility to intervene when unsafe conditions or behaviors exist.
• Conduct field-level safety coaching and behavioral observations focused on hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
• Facilitate daily safety discussions, weekly safety meetings, client safety initiatives, and workforce engagement activities.
• Lead and support safety campaigns, lessons learned communications, and continuous improvement efforts.

Operational Risk Management

• Review and support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, permits, and work plans.

• Manage and monitor Permit-to-Work programs, including energy isolation (LOTO), hot work, confined space entry, and other critical risk activities.

Incident Management & Compliance

• Support incident notification, reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
• Facilitate incident review meetings and ensure lessons learned are communicated throughout the organization.
• Track and monitor corrective actions resulting from incidents, audits, inspections, observations, and regulatory findings.
• Assist with client audits, corporate audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Provide guidance regarding OSHA, EPA, DOT, Alaska Occupational Safety and Health (AKOSH), and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Ensure operational compliance with company policies, client requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Environmental Stewardship

• Monitor compliance with environmental permits, waste management requirements, spill prevention measures, and environmental protection programs.
• Support environmental reporting and incident response activities as required.
• Promote environmental awareness and stewardship among field personnel.
• Assist with environmental inspections and compliance assessments.

Training & Workforce Development

• Conduct employee, contractor, and visitor safety orientations.
• Coordinate and deliver HSE training programs and refresher training.
• Work closely with Training and Operations departments to identify competency gaps and support workforce development initiatives.
• Mentor supervisors and employees on safe work practices and hazard awareness.
• Support emergency response training, drills, exercises, and readiness programs.

Contractor & Client Management

• Support contractor management processes, including onboarding, orientation, compliance monitoring, and performance expectations.
• Interface directly with client HSE representatives and participate in joint inspections, audits, and safety initiatives.
• Represent Nabors'' HSE interests professionally with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Participate in management site visits and client leadership engagements.
