Job Summary
The All-Around Machinist is responsible for machining new tools, reworking existing molds, dies, and fixtures, and maintaining tooling used in the production of molded rubber products. This role requires advanced CNC programming capabilities, strong technical expertise, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Job Description
- Machine new tools and rework existing molds, dies, fixtures, and maintenance parts
- Perform occasional welding and torch work as needed
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements
- Calculate and set machining parameters such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut
- Write and create CNC programs from scratch using Edgecam or similar CAD software (top priority)
- Operate and program CNC mills and lathes; operate manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders
- Inspect finished work to ensure quality before release to production
- Collaborate with design, production, and engineering teams to resolve machining and production issues
- Develop specifications and assist in creating sketches/drawings to communicate design changes
- Safely transport molds and raw materials within the facility and storage areas
- Maintain machine shop equipment, tooling, and inventory in a clean and safe condition
- Train and mentor other employees on machining processes, tools, and equipment
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Follow all safety protocols, report unsafe conditions, and complete required safety training
- Shift: 1st shift, 6am - 2pm M-F
Skills Required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience machining molds, dies, fixtures, or similar tooling in a manufacturing environment (rubber manufacturing preferred or equivalent)
- Strong proficiency in CNC programming using Edgecam or similar CAD/CAM software
- Proven ability to create CNC programs from scratch without assistance
- Experience operating CNC mills and lathes (required)
- Proficiency with manual machining equipment (mills, lathes, surface grinders)
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Forklift and crane certification (or ability to maintain certification)
- Ability to pass a machinist test with at least 85% accuracy (if required)
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and work at varying heights
- Excellent balance and coordination on uneven surfaces
- Ability to lift: Up to 50 lbs (floor to waist), Up to 25 lbs (floor to 60 inches), Carry up to 50 lbs (two-handed) and 35 lbs (single-handed)
- Ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs of force
- Ability to operate hand tools (up to 25 lbs) with grip strength requirements
- Manual dexterity for handling small components (bolts, nuts, tools)
- Adequate vision (depth perception, color differentiation) and hearing
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to meet production, quality, and safety standards
- Flexibility to work extended hours and adapt to changing workloads
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Education
- High school diploma or GED
Additional requirements
- CNC or machine-specific certifications are preferred
- Handling shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
- Dress code: Coveralls provided; steel-toe shoes required; pants (no shorts); short sleeves permitted
- On-site, face-to-face interview process (may include a shop tour)
Pay rate
- $32 - $34 per hour (Compensation will be offered within posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
