Assistant Director of Human Resources | Hartford Public Schools

Hartford, CT | 12-month position | Salary Range: $110,000-$130,000

Hartford Public Schools is seeking an experienced HR leader to serve as Assistant Director of Human Resources, providing operational leadership for the daily administration of the HR Department. Reporting to the Executive Director of Human Resources, this role serves as the Executive Directors chief operational partner - overseeing districtwide HR operations so the Executive Director can focus on strategic leadership, labor relations, and Board-level responsibilities.

What Youll Do:

• Lead daily HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, certification, and personnel administration
• Oversee HR compliance, certification monitoring, and employment law adherence
• Manage HRIS, workforce data analytics, and reporting for district leadership
• Assist with HR budget development, expenditure monitoring, and fiscal stewardship
• Supervise, coach, and develop HR staff
• Lead technology and process-improvement initiatives, including AI and digital workflow solutions
• Serve as operational leader of the HR Department in the Executive Directors absence

What You Bring:

• Masters degree in HR, public administration, educational leadership, business administration, or related field
• 5+ years of progressively responsible HR leadership experience
• Demonstrated experience supervising professional staff and leading organizational initiatives
• Strong knowledge of employment law, labor relations, compensation, recruitment, and HRIS
• SHRM-CP, SPHR, or equivalent senior HR certification preferred
• Experience in a large urban public school district preferred
