Location: Ansonia, Connecticut

Position Type: Part-Time | Approximately 20-25 hours per week

Compensation: $40,000 annually

Start Date: Fall 2026

About PROUD Academy: PROUD Academy is a newly approved public charter middle school preparing to open in Ansonia, Connecticut, in August 2027. PROUD Academy will serve students in Grades 6-8, beginning with a founding sixth-grade class. Our mission is to educate and empower all students to achieve academic excellence and thrive as their authentic selves in a safe, affirming, student-centered community.

Position Summary: The Community & Family Coordinator will lead PROUD Academy's grassroots student recruitment and family outreach efforts as we prepare to welcome our founding sixth-grade class in August 2027. This hands-on role combines family recruitment, community engagement, communications, and targeted administrative coordination. The ideal candidate is highly organized, relationship-oriented, comfortable working independently, and excited to help build a new school from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Student Recruitment & Family Engagement

  • Lead grassroots outreach to build awareness of PROUD Academy and recruit prospective students and families.
  • Build relationships with prospective families and manage an organized recruitment pipeline, including consistent follow-up and tracking progress toward enrollment goals.
  • Represent PROUD Academy through community events, canvassing, door-knocking, information sessions, open houses, and other outreach activities.
  • Support families through application, lottery, enrollment, and registration processes.

Community Engagement & Communications

  • Build relationships with schools, youth organizations, community groups, faith-based organizations, businesses, and local leaders throughout Ansonia and the Naugatuck Valley.
  • Coordinate family and community events and PROUD Academy's participation in local outreach opportunities.
  • Coordinate and communicate with volunteers supporting recruitment and community engagement.
  • Support social media and family/community communications aligned with PROUD Academy's mission, voice, and brand.

Administrative Coordination

  • Maintain organized recruitment records, contact databases, school files, policies, and other planning-year materials.
  • Support scheduling and logistics for Board, committee, family, and community meetings.
  • Track assigned action items, deadlines, and deliverables and provide targeted administrative support related to school launch priorities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, community members, and partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, data entry, and file management.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple priorities, and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Comfort engaging with individuals and groups and representing an organization in community settings.
  • Willingness to conduct grassroots outreach, including canvassing and door-knocking.
  • Flexibility and availability for periodic evening and weekend events.
  • Reliable transportation or consistent access to reliable transportation for local travel.

Preferred

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with or strong connection to Ansonia and the Naugatuck Valley.
  • Two or more years of experience in community engagement, youth development, family services, school recruitment, nonprofit work, or a related field.
  • Experience with social media and digital communications.
