Venue Technical Director & Digital Marketing Coordinator
Full-Time (12-month)
Overview
50/50 role: primary technical contact for Loos Center for the Arts (1,016-seat venue, fully networked/IP-based systems) at The Woodstock Academy, Woodstock, CT; and day-to-day manager of the schools social media/visual storytelling. Covers ~25 public performances/year plus internal events - lead lighting designer/programmer/console operator, systems maintainer, and show advancer with touring artists. Also manages school social accounts, content strategy, and photography, as a trusted partner to the Executive Director.
Ideal candidate: safety-conscious technical professional with strong lighting design/programming skills, working knowledge of live sound and rigging, strong organizational ability - plus skilled as photographer, videographer, and social content creator.
Key Responsibilities
Lighting: Lead designer/programmer/operator for all productions (advanced ETC Eos required); program and maintain fixture inventory (ETC, High End, Chauvet Chroma-Q, Elation, Ultratec).
Sound: Operate/troubleshoot systems (Yamaha, Sennheiser, Shure, d&b); support visiting A1s/touring crews with patching, mic placement, levels; maintain audio inventory.
Rigging & Stage: Operate/maintain fly systems per ETCP/ANSI standards; rig fixtures, scenery, soft goods, touring equipment; manage projection systems; assist with set construction/strike and staging.
Show Advancing & Production Management: Advance technical elements with artists/agents; review riders and flag gaps; prepare schedules and info packets; serve as on-site liaison for visiting crews; coordinate labor, rentals, vendors; maintain patch sheets, fixture schedules, diagrams, show files, and online Tech Kit.
Systems Maintenance & Facility: Inspect, maintain, and repair lighting, audio, rigging, projection, intercom, and staging systems; maintain equipment inventory; report issues needing outside service; keep technical areas organized/safe; manage power distribution (200A/400A switches, Edison circuits, PowerCon/True-1/Cam cabling).
Digital Media & Communications: Manage schools social accounts/content strategy supporting admissions and advancement; create/publish photos, video, copy, and promotional graphics; run paid social ad campaigns as directed; serve as day-to-day school photographer (DSLR and mobile), shooting for The Gleaner magazine; maintain digital photo/video library; manage school profile on sites like Niche; collaborate with outside marketing vendors.
Operational Support & Community: Assist with box office/ticketing as needed; support event-day front-of-house logistics; orient facility renters to equipment; advise student Technical Theater Club (lighting, sound, rigging, projection, follow-spot); other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Demonstrated lighting design/programming experience for live events; advanced ETC Eos proficiency (Apex, Gio, Ion, or equivalent; Gio @5 strongly preferred); working knowledge of DMX/sACN, LED fixtures, moving light programming/maintenance; familiarity with rigging practices, fly systems, safe overhead procedures; show-advancing experience or willingness to learn; hands-on experience with live sound, digital consoles, RF wireless mics (or willingness to learn); strong interpersonal/communication skills; ability to work independently and problem-solve under pressure; basic social media/photo/video content experience (DSLR and mobile) or willingness to learn; evening/weekend availability during the academic year; high school diploma required.
Preferred: ETCP certification (Electrician and/or Rigger) or equivalent safety training; Follow-Me or similar automated follow-spot experience; familiarity with d&b Audiotechnik and/or Yamaha CL/QL consoles; AV-over-IP/network configuration experience (Dante, sACN); Shure ULXD wireless management/RF coordination software; familiarity with ETC Unison/Paradigm; QLab or other show control/playback software knowledge; video projection/basic AV integration experience; familiarity with social media scheduling tools; prior experience in a small-to-mid-size performing arts venue or school setting.
