Job Description


This role focuses on fitting and welding heavy structural steel components for building and construction projects. You will perform flux core and MIG welding, work from detailed blueprints, and collaborate closely with architects and experienced team members to deliver high-quality structural assemblies. The position offers hands-on training with highly skilled welders in a clean, well-organized facility.


Responsibilities


+ Fit and weld heavy structural steel components for building and construction projects using flux core and MIG welding processes.

+ Interpret and work from detailed blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate layout, fit-up, and weld placement.

+ Use quality tools and measuring equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, and weld quality throughout the fabrication process.

+ Perform flux core welding with .045 wire and MIG welding on structural steel components to meet project specifications.

+ Collaborate closely with architects to understand design requirements and incorporate feedback into fabrication and welding work.

+ Work alongside and learn from experienced welders and fitters to continuously improve skills and maintain high quality standards.

+ Assist with fabrication tasks such as cutting, fitting, and assembling structural steel components prior to welding.

+ Handle heavy steel safely, following established safety procedures and using appropriate lifting and handling techniques.

+ Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials.

+ Inspect completed welds and assemblies for defects, structural integrity, and adherence to project specifications, and make necessary corrections.

+ Follow all workplace safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment.

+ Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance quality, efficiency, and safety in welding and fabrication processes.


Essential Skills


+ 3+ years of flux core or MIG welding experience, preferably in a structural steel environment.

+ 3+ years of structural steel experience, including fitting and fabrication of heavy steel components.

+ Proficiency in flux core welding using .045 wire on structural steel.

+ Proficiency in MIG welding for structural and fabrication applications.

+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural drawings accurately.

+ Experience working with structural steel in building or construction-related projects.

+ Strong understanding of welding quality standards and inspection practices.

+ Ability to work safely with heavy steel and welding equipment in a fabrication environment.

+ Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and organized work area in a production setting.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


+ Experience with TIG welding, particularly on stainless steel components.

+ Experience in stainless steel welding and fabrication.

+ Hands-on fabrication experience, including cutting, fitting, and assembling steel structures.

+ Previous experience in a smaller, clean fabrication facility.

+ Comfort working closely with architects, engineers, or design professionals to interpret requirements.

+ Strong teamwork skills and willingness to learn from experienced welders and fitters.

+ Reliability in working assigned shifts and meeting production schedules.

Work Environment


The role is based in a smaller, clean, and organized structural steel fabrication facility. You will work with heavy structural steel, flux core and MIG welding equipment, and various fabrication and quality tools. The workplace emphasizes cleanliness and order, supporting both safety and productivity. Two primary shifts are available: a first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., providing options for different schedule preferences. The environment focuses on safe handling of heavy steel, proper use of welding equipment, and adherence to safety practices while working in a professional production setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
