The School District of La Crosse is now accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Alternative Education Teacher at Bluffview Academy/Juvenile Detention Facility beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Bluffview Academy/Juvenile Detention Facility Teachers deliver instruction to individuals under the age of 18-years-old who are residents of the La Crosse County Juvenile Detention Facility. Projected start date: August 11, 2026
A Wisconsin teaching certification is required. Alternative Education 1952 license is required, or must be willing to attain within one year of hire. The ideal applicant will have certification(s) in special education as well. Math and/or ELA preferred.
Prefer applicants who have demonstrated skills and successful experience in:
Creating and supporting individual educational programs for students, especially students ages 9-18.
Behavioral management techniques.
Developing excellent working relationships and consulting with peers, as well as school and agency staff.
Planning teaching units and individualizing instruction within these units.
Managing a classroom with several learning stations/centers going on at one time.
Using computer technology to enhance student learning.
Keeping accurate, up-to-date records.
The successful candidate must honestly enjoy working with students who are at high risk of failure and believe that all students can achieve at high levels. The successful candidate must also have excellent organizational skills, be flexible and able to adjust to program changes on a regular basis.
