Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate, student-centered Alternative Education Teacher to serve students in grades 9-12 who need additional support to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This position offers a unique opportunity to build meaningful relationships, teach in smaller class settings, and design flexible, individualized programming that meets students where they are.

If you are a dedicated educator who thrives on creativity, connection, and making a real difference in the lives of at-risk youth, this position is for you.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships with at-risk youth.
  • Ability to think creatively and respond flexibly to diverse learner needs.
  • Technology skills appropriate for the assigned instructional areas.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to hold, Wisconsin DPI Certification #1952 - Alternative Education

Why this position is unique

This is not a traditional classroom. You will have the autonomy to design programming that is truly student-driven, with the flexibility to use flexible pacing, project-based learning, credit recovery, and real-world experiential opportunities. You will work with a small number of students and have the chance to make a life-changing impact, reminding yourself why you got into education in the first place.
