    Alternative School Teacher * SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM TITLE: Alternative School Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Alabama teacher certification as required by the Alabama State Department of Education Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience, preferably with at-risk or alternative education populations. Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to student growth. Demonstrated ability to use trauma-informed, restorative, and differentiated instructional practices. Knowledge of academic and behavioral intervention strategies. REPORTS TO: Superintendent and/or assigned designee JOB GOAL: To provide a safe, structured, and supportive educational environment that meets the academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of students identified as at-risk and assigned to the alternative program. The teacher will deliver high-quality instruction, build positive relationships, and support student growth and reentry into traditional school settings or successful completion of graduation requirements. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provide support in core academic subjects and social-emotional learning aligned with state standards and district goals.
    2. Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
    3. Develop and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) tailored to students' academic and behavioral needs.
    4. Collaborate with counselors, mental health providers, case managers, and other stakeholders to support student success.
    5. Monitor and document student academic progress and behavioral growth on a regular basis.
    6. Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    7. Develop behavior intervention strategies that encourage self-regulation and responsibility.
    8. Use restorative practices and alternative discipline methods in lieu of exclusionary practices.
    9. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and provide support as needed.
    10. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.
    11. Serve as a member of the school's student support or behavior intervention team as appropriate.
    12. Participate in ongoing professional development related to trauma-informed care, classroom management, and instructional strategies for at-risk students.
    13. Ensure the safety and supervision of students at all times.
    14. Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month position. Salary based on the current Sumter County Schools Teacher Salary Schedule. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee in In accordance with board policy and applicable state guidelines.
