Alumni Summer Faculty
The Marshall Teacher Residency seeks to support the next generation of teachers in building the skills, mindsets, and practices to lead high-quality classrooms that are student-centered, data-driven, whole child, and anti-racist. The residency is a one year program during which residents are immersed in classrooms while also completing credentialing coursework leading to a California Preliminary Teaching Credential. The residency program was designed in collaboration with the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE), as well as experts and practitioners in the field. The Marshall Teacher Residency was established in 2017 and has continued to grow - we now place Residents in classrooms across California through a wide array of school partners.
Alumni Summer Faculty play a critical role to ensure the success of the Marshall Teacher Residency Summer Coursework Intensive. Alumni Summer Faculty are responsible for helping to establish and sustain a strong, inclusive culture of learning from the very start of the program. They do this by actively supporting Resident engagement during coursework sessions and facilitating meaningful participation throughout the summer. In addition, Alumni Summer Faculty provide targeted support through 1:1 check-ins and small group facilitation. This includes addressing a range of Resident needs including, but not limited to: organization and time management, building fluency with residency technology systems, supporting specific skills needed for residency coursework, and navigating the transition from the summer into the residency year. By building strong relationships and maintaining a close pulse on Resident progress, Alumni Summer Faculty help ensure that each individual feels supported, challenged, and set up for success.
Alumni Summer Faculty collaborate closely with Marshall Teacher Residency faculty, regularly sharing observations and insights to inform instructional decisions and cohort-wide supports. Through this partnership, they help ensure that all Residents are consistently engaged, well-supported, and developing the skills, mindsets, and habits necessary to successfully launch into and thrive during the residency year. This role reports to the Senior Program Director.
