    Job Description

About the Role — A Day in the Life

You arrive, review the maintenance plan, and walk the plant floor. You listen for the subtle change in a compressor’s tone, scan trend data, and plan a Kaizen you’ll facilitate later this week. Before first break, you’ve executed preventive work on an ammonia system, corrected a PLC I/O fault, and verified ice quality for clarity, cube size, and hole spacing. You stage critical spares, update a safety checklist, and brief the Plant Manager on a countermeasure you’ve designed to reduce unplanned downtime.

This position exists to keep manufacturing systems and plant infrastructure reliable. You’ll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and repair equipment, select and use the right tools, make minor facility repairs, and, when needed, operate processing equipment to improve throughput and minimize downtime.

    How You Create Value

    • Execute preventive maintenance on production assets; diagnose and repair faults quickly and safely.
    • Operate processing machinery when required to reduce downtime and stabilize output.
    • Apply advanced reading of blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to service both manufacturing and facility systems.
    • Support water plant operations and upkeep across equipment such as Ice Makers, Compressors, Heat Exchangers, Ammonia and Freon Refrigeration Systems, Pumps, and Condensers.
    • Ensure equipment readiness and stage supplies so production can start and stay running.
    • Manage ordering and inventory of repair parts and service tools to maintain safe, optimal plant function.
    • Verify production quality by visually inspecting ice for clarity, cube dimensions, and hole spacing.
    • Use root cause analysis and implement countermeasures; perform basic data analysis to identify failure drivers.
    • Handle minor building and grounds tasks—lightbulb changes, painting, and small structural fixes.
    • Coach teammates on proper tool/equipment use for general facility maintenance.
    • Pitch in to bag product when needed and occasionally align production workflow with equipment output.
    • Perform basic electrical and electronic maintenance independently.
    • Surface continuous improvement opportunities to the Operations Manager; complete required safety checklists.
    • Identify, monitor, and correct industrial health and safety concerns; apply advanced electrical and chemical safety controls.
    • Uphold our Code of Business Ethics, lead with integrity, and model personal ownership of safety.

    Lean Mindset

You champion our True North attributes—voice of the customer, respect for the individual, no-nonsense, fact-based communication, servant leadership, and continuous improvement. You utilize lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3) to assess opportunities, drive improvements, and you lead or participate in Kaizen and value stream mapping events.

    Essential Mental Functions

    • Read and interpret English-language safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures.
    • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner; remain unfatigued and responsive.
    • Accurately gauge time and distance; quickly store and recall short-term instructions.
    • Maintain concentration and sound judgment for tasks requiring high cognitive function.
    • Cope with sudden environmental changes, emergencies, and alarms.
    • Demonstrate genuine care for safety; possess fast reflexes and unimpaired coordination.
    • Be free from impairments that would hinder safe, competent performance; respond promptly to changing conditions.

    Collaboration

Internal: Plant Manager, plant employees, Regional VP, VP Engineering
    External: Vendors, contractors

    Supervision

This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. You may help coordinate production workflow, and you’ll maintain a professional demeanor with vendors, suppliers, and contractors while demonstrating a commitment to Reddy Ice’s values.
