Job Summary

The AMR Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and reading of electric, gas, and water meters through Dalton Utilities' Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) program. This position involves manual, visual, and electronic meter reading, customer service interactions, and close coordination with the Billing Department to ensure accurate and timely billing.

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, repair, and read electric, gas, and water meters using AMR technology or manual methods when required

Electronically and manually read meters using meter collection equipment

Analyze AMR data to identify irregular or inconsistent usage

Work closely with the Billing Department to meet billing deadlines

Program gas and water meters using approved tools and technology

Set new meters, perform meter change-outs, and check for unauthorized meter turn-ons

Complete service orders including check reads, cut-offs, reconnects, removals, and readouts

Perform water pressure checks and repair water leaks at meters as needed

Use GPS tools and software to locate meters and attach photos to document meter conditions

Retrieve and replace meter boxes and lids as needed

Maintain stocked vehicles with required tools and supplies

Communicate effectively with Customer Service and Utility Service departments

Maintain a professional appearance and keep assigned vehicles clean

Operate tools and equipment such as pickup trucks, radios, hand tools, piping tools, and related equipment

Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Walk long distances between services, including hills and stairs

Frequently enter and exit vehicles

Bend, stoop, reach, and stand for extended periods

Lift up to 75 pounds

Clear meter boxes of debris, vegetation, insects, soil, and standing water

Use ladders and work in confined spaces such as meter pits (must not be claustrophobic)

Work outdoors in all weather conditions

Regular hours of this position are 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday with some overtime possible.

Pay Range

$17.60/hour - $23.60/hour
