This position conducts technical training within the assigned Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program in a hybrid format, combining on-site classroom and laboratory instruction with online asynchronous coursework, in a manner that enables the College to meet 14 CFR part 147, the College's FAA operations specifications, the Aviation Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (FAA-S-ACS-1), the ACCSC Standards of Accreditation, and all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Essential Functions
Teaches one or more assigned classes that are part of the AMT program in a hybrid format, delivering on-site classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction as well as online asynchronous coursework using the approved LMS, consistent with approved course materials and the Aviation Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (FAA-S-ACS-1)
Compile and maintain student grade and attendance records and other required paperwork
Follow and maintain daily lesson plans and course Study Guides and ensure their alignment with 14 CFR part 147, the College's FAA operations specifications, and the Aviation Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (FAA-S-ACS-1), through input to the Lead Instructor/Department Head
Comply with the procedures established in the College's FAA operations specifications and with the College's academic policies governing recordkeeping, assessment, award of credit, final course grades, attendance, and graduation documentation
Comply with established company policies and procedures
Administer and grade lab projects and theory exams required for the course of instruction assigned
Conduct on-site, hands-on laboratory and shop introduction and demonstrations involving aircraft, engines, tools, and shop equipment in accordance with 14 CFR part 147, the College's FAA operations specifications, and established shop safety procedures
Maintain the required student-to-instructor ratio in all shop and laboratory sections and notify the Program Chair immediately if a section approaches or exceeds a 25:1 ratio (14 CFR 147.19(c))
Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment, tool control, and hazardous materials handling procedures in the lab/shop in compliance with OSHA and FAA standards
Initiate timely and meaningful interaction with students in the online asynchronous component on a scheduled and predictable basis using the approved LMS, virtual sessions, or other approved methods, including direct instruction, assessment of and feedback on student work, and facilitation of course discussion
Monitor student academic engagement in the online asynchronous component and promptly and proactively engage students who are not progressing or who request assistance, documenting that outreach in the approved LMS
Respond to student inquiries received through approved channels within the response timeframe established by the College
Publish and hold scheduled office hours to provide consistent support for online asynchronous students, in addition to - not in place of - instructor-initiated interaction
Report supplies and materials needed for class to Lead Instructor or Department head
Ensure student compliance with all established student policies and procedures
Provide student remediation as needed and consistent outreach with department head
Assist in student retention and provide student advisement forms for various student needs including those related to student services as well as academically
Track, reconcile, and post student attendance and academic engagement across the on-site and online asynchronous components within the timeframe established by the College, and determine and report a student's last date of attendance when required, to meet Title IV and accreditation attendance-documentation requirements
Complete required FERPA training and safeguard the confidentiality of student education records; conduct all instructional, grading, and advising activity within College-approved systems
Complete the College's training in instructional methods and teaching skills, including training that specifically addresses teaching skills and instructional methods in a distance education environment, before assuming primary instructional responsibility, and participate in the College's faculty improvement plan thereafter
Participate in faculty in-service, ongoing professional development, and the College's formative and summative evaluation of instructor performance and effectiveness in both the on-site and distance education components of assigned courses
Maintain current documentation of all required certificates and licenses and report any change in FAA certificate status to the Program Chair
Cooperate with and be available for FAA, accreditor, and state regulatory inspections and visits (14 CFR 147.27)
Support the program's FAA mechanic testing pass-rate requirement through ACS-aligned instruction and student test preparation (14 CFR 147.25)
Knowledge / Skills
Knowledge of computers with ability to edit and create documents using Microsoft office products
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and government regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, staff, and students
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane, and solid geometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
