About this job:

Business Intelligence analyst with experience using the Microsoft Business Intelligence stack. The ideal candidate will have experience in the full life cycle of Business Intelligence solutions. The candidate will contribute to the design, user requirements, documentation and strategic implementation of systems to be used by the teachers, principals, and staff of Denver Public Schools.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner directly with customers and business stakeholders across HR, Finance, and Student data areas to understand reporting needs, gather requirements, and clarify business rules.

  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and reporting solutions.

  • Write, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects using SQL Server Management Studio and T-SQL.

  • Build, enhance, and maintain reports using Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services.

  • Validate report data for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business requirements.

  • Take reporting requests from initial conversation through development, testing, user review, deployment, and final delivery.

  • Troubleshoot and support existing reports and reporting applications as needed.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical customers throughout the full reporting lifecycle.

  • Participate in data model and reporting design discussions, including star schemas and other structures needed to support business reporting requirements.

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with business intelligence, reporting, or data analytics solutions.
  • Strong experience writing complex SQL queries using SQL Server Management Studio and T-SQL.
  • Ability to gather requirements directly from customers, ask clarifying questions, document business needs, and translate those needs into technical reporting solutions.
  • Experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Ability to independently build, troubleshoot, and modify reports based on changing business requirements.
  • Strong understanding of reporting best practices, including parameterized reports, CTEs, data validation, report performance, and user-friendly design.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical customers and provide clear status updates.
  • Ability to manage work from start to finish, including requirements gathering, development, testing, feedback, deployment, and support.
  • Experience with SSIS, ETL processes, incremental load logic, or slowly changing dimensions preferred.
