Ascendant is seeking a highly motivated Analyst to join our team supporting the U.S. Field within the International Trade Administration (ITA) at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Working closely with senior government leadership, including the Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS), the Analyst will provide programmatic, research, communications, and administrative support that advances the U.S. Field's mission of helping American companies expand into international markets, increasing U.S. exports, and supporting economic growth and job creation. This full-time position is located at the federal client site in downtown Washington, D.C. (Federal Triangle/Metro Center) and requires onsite work five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) by coordinating executive communications, including newsletters, briefing materials, travel books, scheduling requests, correspondence, invitations, calendars, and long-range planning initiatives
  • Coordinate and manage headquarters administrative processes, including taskers, reports, travel coordination, and vetting activities
  • Conduct research and track program activities using ITA systems and databases, including SharePoint, Salesforce, the Common Data Platform, LexisNexis, and other internal tools
  • Draft briefing papers, presentations, reports, dashboards, and other written products for senior leadership
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations, flyers, and other internal and external communications materials
  • Coordinate the collection, editing, clearance, and publication of success stories and impact narratives with field offices and headquarters stakeholders, including the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs
  • Design and administer surveys and compile quantitative and qualitative data to support program evaluation and decision-making
  • Support special projects and other assignments as needed in a fast-paced headquarters environment

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in International Relations, International Trade, International Business, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field
  • One to two years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience or coursework related to international trade, export promotion, economic development, or international business preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, research and problem solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, formulas, chart creation, and data visualization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Teams)
  • Ability to prepare professional briefing materials, presentations, reports, and dashboards
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, LexisNexis, D&B Hoovers, fDi Markets, or similar research and CRM platforms
  • Experience supporting senior executives or government leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with government clients and team members
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust clearance
  • Ability to work onsite in Washington, D.C., five days per week

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
