Job Description and Duties

This is an Until Filled position. The job control will remain open, and applications will be reviewed beginning July 21, 2026, and then every week on Fridays until filled.

About HR Modernization, Data, and Reporting

The California Department of Education (CDE) employs over 1,400 employees who work across 38 divisions. Our office works in the Human Resources Division (HRD) and delivers actionable workforce data to inform strategic decision-making as well as support mandated compliance processes. We enhance operational efficiency by streamlining HR process through workflow automation and data-driven solutions that strengthen employee support. Additionally, we oversee all aspects of Position Control, ensuring accurate management of employee and position data, organizational structure, classification, allocations, appointments, and compliance to maintain workforce integrity and operational alignment.

The Role

The Analyst II, under direction of a Supervisor I, will work with CDE Offices and various employee databases to gather, analyze, prepare Human Resource data. With direction, incumbent leads projects that modernize current payroll, benefit, position control, and other HR processes, as well as projects which enhance the CDE employee databases and support the transition to State Controller's Office new California State Payroll System (CSPS) platform. The Analyst II also writes or modifies queries using FOCUS programing language to retrieve data from SCO's MIRS database, performs complex quantitative data analysis, and develops new data models and visualizations.

Personal Leave Program 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Working Conditions

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Desirable Qualifications
