About the role

DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) seeks talented and highly motivated analysts to work on strategy, analysis, new market identification, M&A and financing transactions, and support for all aspects of DESRI’s business. These positions are available on both our Finance & Acquisitions and Strategy teams and provide the opportunity to develop strong analytical, financial, and strategic skills while working alongside experienced professionals on high-impact initiatives across DESRI’s renewable energy platform.

What you'll do

Strategy Team

You’ll support the development of DESRI’s market strategy and new project origination decisions by conducting power market research, tracking industry trends, and performing a variety of quantitative and qualitative analyses. This work may include analyzing electricity market fundamentals across regions of the United States to identify attractive markets for renewable energy and energy storage, researching renewable energy demand opportunities with utilities and corporate customers, and maintaining competitive intelligence and market benchmarking. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and communicate strategic insights that support business planning, investment decisions, and transaction execution.

Investment & Acquisitions Team

You’ll support investment decisions by building and maintaining financial models used to evaluate project returns, capital structures, investment risks, and value creation opportunities. You’ll assist with due diligence efforts by coordinating third-party deliverables, analyzing project documentation, and supporting transaction processes for acquisitions, debt and tax equity financings, and asset sales. Working closely with senior team members, you’ll contribute analytical support throughout the execution of transactions involving projects in development, under construction, and operating assets across DESRI’s portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have an undergraduate degree and 0–2 years of relevant experience in investment banking, project finance, corporate finance, consulting, strategy, renewable energy, or a related analytical field.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities, preferably in Excel, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear conclusions.
  • A record of academic and professional achievement, well-developed communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively within a small team, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new concepts across renewable energy markets, project finance, and corporate strategy.
  • A demonstrated interest in renewable energy projects and/or electricity markets in the United States is preferred.
  • At DESRI, we consider a wide range of factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The expected annual base salary for this position is $100,000 - $120,000.
  • Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
