Summary

The Scientist I Chemistry / Analytical Chemist will support Manufacturing Sciences by synthesizing functionalized resins used in HPLC column production. This role involves performing polymer chemistry synthesis, analytical testing, troubleshooting manufacturing processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in chemistry, analytical techniques, and laboratory best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize raw and functionalized resins used in HPLC column manufacturing following established manufacturing protocols.
  • Perform standard polymer chemistry techniques including ATRP, grafting, and polymerization reactions.
  • Conduct routine analysis of resin size distribution and surface area.
  • Interpret chromatographic data from HPLC/UPLC and GC-MS instruments.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report manufacturing issues while recommending effective corrective actions.
  • Communicate production updates, delays, and technical findings with manufacturing and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Process Development, and Product Management to support manufacturing objectives.
  • Participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI), 5S, Just Do It (JDI), and safety initiatives.
  • Generate and maintain quality documentation in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain accurate production records.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry.
  • 0 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with polymer chemistry and analytical chemistry techniques.
  • Experience with chromatography systems, including HPLC/UPLC.
  • Ability to interpret chromatograms generated by HPLC/UPLC and GC-MS.
  • Knowledge of resin characterization techniques, including particle size distribution and surface area analysis.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems and quality documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with chromatography software.
  • Familiarity with quality control documentation and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment.
