    Introduction
    Visium Resources has been asked to identify qualified candidates for this Analytics Engineer position. This position is a 18-24 month contract opportunity which is expected to be Hybrid with the expectation that engineer can work onsite in Norman, OK Monday and Tuesdays each week.


    Summary

    Client is implementing a new enterprise data platform using Snowflake.  Phase 1 is expected to incorporate data from PeopleSoft Student, PeopleSoft Human Capital Management, PeopleSoft Financials, Ellucian Banner, Slate, and Instructure Canvas.  The implementation includes ingestion, transformation, data modeling, data quality, governance, master data and identity-related work, historical-data conversion, reporting enablement, testing, and operational transition.

    The Analytics Engineer will bridge data engineering, institutional business logic, and analytics delivery.  The resource will develop trusted, reusable analytical models and reporting-ready datasets in Snowflake and may support existing analytical workloads sourced from the Oracle ODS.  The role requires strong SQL, data-modeling, testing, documentation, and stakeholder-engagement skills.


    Job Description:

    • Develop curated analytical models, dimensional structures, semantic-ready datasets, and reusable business logic for enterprise reporting.
    • Write, optimize, test, and document complex SQL used for transformation, metrics, reporting, and analytical consumption.
    • Translate functional definitions into consistent dimensions, facts, measures, hierarchies, calculations, and reporting rules.
    • Partner with functional users, data stewards, analysts, and BI developers to clarify requirements and resolve conflicting definitions.
    • Develop documentation for business terms, calculations, lineage, source mappings, assumptions, limitations, and appropriate use of data products.
    • Implement automated tests for data validity, metric consistency, referential integrity, completeness, and regression prevention.
    • Support reconciliation and user acceptance testing by comparing new EDW outputs to authoritative sources and existing reports.
    • Prepare Snowflake datasets and models for Power BI and other approved analytical tools.
    • Assist with Power BI semantic models, performance considerations, row-level security, and governed self-service patterns when assigned.
    • Analyze and improve existing Oracle ODS queries, reporting views, or analytical workloads as assigned.
    • Promote reuse and reduce duplicated or conflicting business logic across reports and departments.
    • Transfer knowledge to CLIENT analysts, developers, data stewards, and support personnel.


    Required Qualifications
    • Demonstrated professional experience in analytics engineering, data warehousing, business intelligence engineering, or a closely related role.
    • Advanced SQL skills and experience developing tested, reusable analytical data models.
    • Experience with dimensional modeling, facts and dimensions, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions, and enterprise metric definitions.
    • Experience developing analytical models in Snowflake or a comparable cloud data platform.
    • Experience translating business and reporting requirements into maintainable technical solutions.
    • Experience with automated data testing, reconciliation, documentation, source control, and code-review practices.
    • Ability to facilitate conversations with functional stakeholders and explain technical issues in plain language.
    • Ability to work effectively with a distributed, multi-party team and participate fully in scheduled working sessions.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience developing Snowflake models for Power BI, including semantic-model and performance considerations.
    • Experience with Oracle SQL and analytical workloads supported by an enterprise ODS.
    • Experience with dbt, Snowflake-native transformation capabilities, Informatica, or comparable analytics-engineering tooling.
    • Experience with higher-education data, including student, human resources, finance, learning-management, admissions, or online-program domains.
    • Experience handling regulated or confidential data, including FERPA-protected student records or comparable data-protection requirements.
    • Experience with data catalogs, business glossaries, lineage, data stewardship, data certification, and governed self-service analytics.
    • Experience with identity resolution, master data, and cross-system data harmonization.
    • Relevant Snowflake, Power BI, analytics, or data-modeling certifications.
    • Availability to work a hybrid schedule and come on-site in Norman, Oklahoma, when beneficial to the project.
    • Completion of a vendor-provided background check or willingness to complete an acceptable background check before receiving CLIENT system or data access.
    • Residence within reasonable commuting distance of Norman, Oklahoma, or another practical arrangement for periodic on-site work.
