Analyzer Technician III

BASIC FUNCTION

This position will provide Analytical support for the continuous manufacture of quality high density polyethylene (HDPE) and specialty fluids (HDA), consistent with high standards of quality, safety, housekeeping, and good employee relations. Provide support for all Baystar's manufacturing facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Keeping supervisor updated on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work
• Provide the routine and scheduled maintenance and repair, as well as the preventive maintenance and calibration of Process Analyzers
• Document all appropriate Process Analyzer activities
• Quickly and efficiently completes tasks
• Work in a team with other analyzer technicians to perform routine and turnaround activities
• Ensures maximum reliability of analyzer equipment
• Adhere to high standards of productivity, quality, teamwork, housekeeping, and safety
• Track and update assigned tasks in maintenance management system on a regular basis
• Be available for maintenance on-call
• May be required to work with and around materials that are considered hazardous by OSHA using personal protective equipment as necessary
• Comply with all company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices
• Maintains maintenance records on all analyzers
• Supports CEM's Team through active participation and support.
• Provides data logs, maintenance records and reports, as necessary
• Fills out all timesheets accurately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Fills out SAP work order data daily.
• Provides off-hours analytical support to the site.
• Ability to effectively interface with production, engineering and project departments and coordinate contractors as needed.
• Process gas chromatography
• Calibration of multiple technologies of Gas Chromatographs as well as troubleshooting sample ovens and systems to component level for repairs needed.
• Understands gas composition heavy to light for Process gas chromatography
• Calibrate and efficiently troubleshoot calorimeter, Gas chromatographs,HRVOC Gas chromatographs",CEMs,SIS, interlocks.
• Modify engineering drawings "redline/Greenline"
• Effective installation and quality Commissioning of new analyzers Gas Chromatogrpahs,calorimters,oxygen,moisture etc.
• Ensure quality Installation and maintenance and calibration of various utility analyzers including conductivity, PH, moisture, 02, BTU and CO as well as Gas Chromatographs
• Contribute to continuous improvement by offering suggestions for long-term solutions to minimize costs, improve reliability, and improve loss control performance
• Interpret installation drawings electrical/spec sheets/manufacture/manuals & documents awareness basics.
• Participates in the execution of the scheduled work plan by:
• *Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding
• *Acquiring all necessary parts, tools and instructions prior to starting the job to minimize non value added time.
• *Keeping supervisor updated on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
• Collaborates with Analyzer specialist on optimization and site improvements.
• Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate cause of failure
• Participate actively in department/plant safety programs
• Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance
• Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability and provide mentoring and coaching for team member development
• Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns
• Responsible for a multitude of sample conditioning systems and complex analyzer technologies to measure and control streams and side streams including HC's, CO, NOx, CO2, NH3, CH4, O2, etc
• Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
• Installation, maintenance and calibration of VOC & HRVOC analyzers
• Installation, maintenance and calibration of CEMS analyzers
• All pre-requisites of prior levels to be met.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• High school diploma or GED required
• 10-15 years of craft experience required (preferably as an analyzer technician)
• Good personal computer skills and knowledge
• Demonstrated math, reading and problem-solving skill
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
• The ability to read P&IDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, GC oven diagrams, and other complex instrumentation/electrical drawings
• The ability to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, blueprints, P&IDs, work permits, and technical instruction manuals is required
• Thorough knowledge of AC voltage (120-480) three phase and single phase plus 24 VDC is required
• Strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity in using tools and equipment are required
• The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical solutions is required
• Basic computer skills, such as creating and editing content in MS Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, is required
• The ability to assume responsibility, prioritize, and respond to multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions
• The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business, at various levels of the organization, in a business-like and professional manner is required
• The ability to modify communication style to influence, persuade, negotiate, and engage all parties according to the audience and circumstance is required
• Component Separation techniques backflush to vent, backflush to detector, reverse column step, trap bypass, heartcut, programed temperature.
• Gas Chromatograph detector functionality and specifics for (TCD)(FID)(FPD)(Methanator)
• Gas Chromatograph Valve types functionality and application specifics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
• NCCER certification, State license preferred but may be waived in lieu of 15 years or greater in a refinery/petrochemical
• Any and all other electrical certifications to include technical college and/or manufacturing certifications. Siemens,Hobre,Emerson courses are accounted for as well.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
• May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
• Associates degree with an emphasis in Electrical/Mechanical skills, Industrial Electricity Instrumentation or equivalent
• Experience with, Honeywell and/or Emerson DCS systems
• Candidate will be required to successfully complete a bench test
• Candidates will be required to successfully complete extensive testing, drug/alcohol screen, physical requirement evaluation and an extended training period

• Required to work at ground level, from ladders, and from heights greater than 250' above grade on fixed platforms, mobile equipment platforms, and scaffolding
• Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders with and without a safety cage
• Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 24" manways
• Must be capable of lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds
• Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, crawling, walking, and climbing
• Sit or stand for extended periods of time
• Required to reach overhead and at shoulder level with hands and arms
• Must demonstrate fine and gross motor coordination including pinching, gripping, turning, and keyboarding of both hands
• Move about uneven surfaces, including catwalks, deck grating, and wet and muddy areas
• Work outside in all weather conditions walking up to ½ mile per job
• Understand, support, and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO)
• Position located in a chemical processing facility and requires overtime to meet plant needs, including alternative shifts as needed to meet facility needs
• Position requires on-call duties, and the successful candidate must be able to respond 24/7, 100% of the time to plant emergencies on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays while on-call
• Contribute to continuous improvement by offering suggestions for long-term solutions to minimize costs, improve reliability, and improve loss control performance
