Description
A well-established hospital system is seeking an experienced professional to lead the daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology department. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, quality management, staff development, and efficient laboratory workflow while supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.
Role Overview
Lead daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology department
Ensure compliance with hospital, regulatory, and accreditation standards
Oversee laboratory quality control, operational performance, and turnaround times
Manage, mentor, and develop laboratory supervisors and staff
Support departmental budgeting, staffing, and strategic initiatives
Drive process improvements and operational efficiency
Collaborate with hospital leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
Serve as a resource for technical, operational, and personnel-related matters
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily Anatomic Pathology operations and laboratory workflow
Supervise laboratory personnel, including supervisors, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists, scientists, and laboratory assistants
Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards
Manage quality control programs and monitor departmental performance metrics
Oversee staff training, orientation, competency assessments, and continuing education
Monitor laboratory turnaround times and implement process improvements
Develop departmental goals, objectives, and operational budgets
Manage hiring, employee evaluations, coaching, and corrective actions
Collaborate with vendors to resolve equipment, software, and operational issues
Support laboratory information systems and workflow optimization
Participate in leadership meetings, departmental initiatives, and performance improvement projects
Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree required
Experience
Minimum 4–6 years of relevant hospital laboratory experience required
Prior laboratory leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality management, and regulatory compliance
Experience managing staff, workflows, and departmental performance
Budgeting, operational planning, and process improvement experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
One of the following New York State licenses required:
Clinical Laboratory Technologist
Cytotechnologist
Histotechnologist
Pathologists' Assistant
ASCP Certification preferred
