Job Description

Anchor / Reporter

Local 3 News (WRCB-TV) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking a hands-on Anchor / Reporter to lead on the desk, report in the field, build trusted community relationships and create journalism for broadcast, digital, social and streaming audiences. This is an opportunity for a journalist who wants to be more than a newscast reader: a trusted storyteller, visible voice for the Tennessee Valley, newsroom teammate and creator of meaningful local journalism across platforms.

What You’ll Do

  • Anchor weekday newscasts.
  • Report, shoot, write, edit and present enterprise stories that matter to communities across the Tennessee Valley.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to breaking news, major weather, live events and developing stories.
  • Partner with producers and newsroom colleagues to build accurate, conversational, visually strong and engaging newscasts and coverage.
  • Write, edit and copy-edit broadcast scripts with attention to clarity, fairness, accuracy, urgency and viewer value.
  • Generate distinctive story ideas through active community engagement, source development and strong news judgment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with viewers, community leaders, public officials, advocates and other sources who can help identify important stories.
  • Create original content for Local3News.com, social platforms, and streaming products.
  • Help develop digital-first and streaming-friendly storytelling, including explainers, live updates, interviews, recurring franchises, vertical video and audience-engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute creative ideas and sound editorial judgment in daily planning, editorial meetings and breaking-news decisions.
  • Share anchoring, reporting, writing, live-shot and storytelling expertise with reporters, producers and interns.
  • Represent Local 3 professionally in the community, at station events and on social media.
  • Help identify new ways to build audience trust, strengthen community connection and expand Local 3’s reach across platforms.

What We Need

  • A journalist first - motivated by local storytelling, public service, accountability, and community connection.
  • Strong, natural on-camera delivery and the ability to ad-lib clearly, calmly and credibly during breaking news and live coverage.
  • Excellent broadcast writing, copy-editing, producing and conversational storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated reporting, enterprise, live-shot and news-gathering abilities.
  • The ability to shoot, write and edit complete stories independently when needed.
  • Strong editorial judgment, sound ethics and a clear commitment to accuracy, fairness and transparency.
  • A digital and social-media mindset, including an understanding of how to gather news, engage audiences, develop sources and tailor storytelling to different platforms.
  • Interest in producing streaming and on-demand content that extends Local 3 journalism beyond traditional newscasts.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach, with the confidence to lead constructively and coach less-experienced journalists.
  • Curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn new newsgathering and storytelling techniques.
  • The ability to work under deadline pressure and contribute during severe weather and breaking-news coverage.
  • Flexibility to lead coverage of breaking news outside the regular weekday schedule and work holidays, and fill-in weekends as newsroom needs require.
  • Experience with Edius or similar newsroom, scripting, and non-linear editing systems is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, broadcast journalism or a related field.
  • At least five years of professional newsroom experience preferred.
  • Experience anchoring, reporting and producing content for broadcast, digital and social audiences.
  • A demonstrated record of enterprise reporting, source development and community involvement.
  • Experience creating or hosting digital, social, streaming, podcast, live-event or other audience-facing content is a plus.
