    Summary:

    The Anesthesia Technologist is an essential member of the anesthesia care team who practices in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, polices, and procedures. The technologist will assist anesthesia providers in surgical and clinical care settings. Primary duties include but are not limited to: the preparation and set up of appropriate equipment and supplies, extensive skill in using and maintaining anesthesia equipment, and providing assistance with hands-on patient care.

    Responsibilities:

    • In collaboration with the anesthesia provider, the certified anesthesia technologist will be involved with the anesthesia plan of care.
    • Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the setup, application and assistance of non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring and assisting the anesthesia provider during the induction of anesthesia for general and regional anesthesia.
    • Performs routine checkout and upkeep of anesthesia equipment and inspects for damages and sends for repair or troubleshoots as needed.
    • Coordinates with biomedical engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia equipment and ensure adequate back-up equipment
    • Utilizing sterile technique, sets up and assists with the placement of invasive monitoring equipment in routine and emergency situations, including arterial line, central line, and other monitoring adjuncts.
    • Assists anesthesia provider with patient preparation, electrode placement, use of ultrasound/nerve stimulator devices, and performs mechanical task of pressing syringe plunger, as directed by anesthesia provider, to instill medication during regional blocks.
    • Utilizing established protocols, transports and delivers approved medications from the pharmacy or Omnicell to the operating room as directed by the anesthesia provider.
    • Assembles anesthesia airway set up and assists the anesthesia provider with difficult airways and fiberoptic intubations.
    • Prepares and maintains the ultrasound machines for intravenous access and regional anesthesia procedures.
    • Assists with obtaining lab specimens and becomes competent in the use of and care of point of care testing equipment.
    • Assist in the operation of rapid infuser devices during massive transfusion scenarios
    • Assist in the preparation of the anesthesia machine for patients at risk for malignant hyperthermia
    • Actively participates in problem identification and resolution, development of policies and procedures, quality improvement and staff development.
    • Establish and maintain rapport with vending/servicing contractors for anesthesia related equipment
    • Participates in the education of new staff members
    • Participate in education of new staff members
    • Assist team members with developing, implementing, and maintaining an orientation and development program for other anesthesia technologists, technicians, and perioperative surgical technicians
    • Coordinates patient monitoring equipment availability with the pre and post anesthesia care units

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • At least 1 year or relevant experience

    EDUCATION

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred
    • Certified Anesthesia Tech preferred

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

    • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements required
    • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) 180 Days preferred
