    Description

    The Anesthesia Assistant works under the supervision of the Anesthesiologist/CRNA to facilitate placement of monitoring equipment and pain management techniques utilized during the surgical procedures. Prepares and maintains supplies for anesthesia department. Reports to Director Surgical Services.

    Responsibilities:

    Assists with monitor placement of patients (EKG, B/P, and Oxygen Sat. monitor), assists with inductions and intubations, arterial and swan ganz line placements, assists with epidural and spinal procedures.

    Set-ups invasive monitoring equipment (transducers), blood warmers, IVs, Bier blocks.

    Cleans, sterilizes and maintains Laryngoscopes, laryngo-mask airways (LMAs), and flexible bronchoscopes.

    Mixes medication for IV Infusion pumps and nerve blocks.

    Assist with transporting of patients to ICU, MRI, CT and Angio.

    Orders, maintains and checks outdates of medications, malignant hyperthermia supplies and medical gases for area.

    Assists with room turnover between cases.

    Trouble shoots and/or arranges for repairs of anesthesia equipment as needed.

    Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

    Required:

    Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing or respiratory therapy program.

    License/permit in the State of Michigan as a licensed practical nurse or respiratory therapist.

    BLS and ACLS certification.

    Preferred:

    One year experience.
