Anesthesiologist Position Purpose:Administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in collaboration and consultation with surgeonsand other medical professionals for patient care services including but not limited to surgery, perinatal services, and emergency response. Essential Functions Participates in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation. Anesthesia equipment and supplies are prepared appropriately for procedures. Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient; assesses data and selectsappropriate anesthetic. Procedural consent is verified prior to each procedure. Patient specific anesthesia plan of care is formulated from the pre-surgical assessment Implements,monitorsand adjustspatientsphysiologic condition asappropriate fortype of anesthesia and specific patients needs. Transfers the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post-operatively toassurecontinuity of care and patient safety. Report and completed documentationisprovided upon transfer of the patient from intra-operative to post-operative care provider. Acute and chronic post-operative pain management modalities are implemented. Medications,fluidsandventilatorsupport are selected and ordered tofacilitaterecovery from anesthesia. The patient is discharged from the post-anesthesia care unit and provided with post-anesthesia follow-up,evaluationand care. Must discuss and review anesthesia plan with CRNAs and remain physically present on the premises during delivery of anesthesia services. Participates inadditionalareas of responsibility, which are within theexpertiseof the individualAnesthesiologist, for example, responding to cardiac arrests and elective intubations. Ensuresappropriate documentationto sufficiently charge for servicesrendered. Marginal Functions Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner asidentifiedbySaintAnthonyHospitaland the respective department while adhering to the Hospitals confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistentlydemonstratesthe core values ofSaintAnthonyHospitalin all interactions with others. Assumes responsibility for knowing andmaintainingestablished hospital and departmentalobjectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate. Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required. Maintains educational requirements for licensure and certification. General Job Requirements Basic education of M.D., D.O. or equivalent medical degree Holds currentunrestrictedphysician and surgeon licensein the State of Illinois. Holds currentDEAlicenseand Controlled Substancein the State of Illinois. Successfully completed a residencyprogramAnesthesiology approved by ACGME or its equivalent. The applicant must be able todemonstratethat he or she has performed at least 50 anesthetic procedures during the past24 months. Becomeprivileged and credentialed by the Medical Staffin accordance withthe Medical Staff Bylawsand remain in good standing.
