    Job Description

    Responsibilities:

The Department of Anesthesiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking Board-Eligible and Board-Certified Anesthesiologists to join a collaborative, academically engaged team in a setting where you can build the career you want—without sacrificing the lifestyle you value.

As a rural academic medical center, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center offers something unique: the clinical complexity and academic opportunities of a major medical center, paired with the collegiality, flexibility, and quality of life of a close-knit community.

You’ll care for a diverse, high-acuity patient population while having the opportunity to develop or expand subspecialty interests in pediatric and cardiac anesthesia. Whether your goals are primarily clinical or include teaching, mentorship, leadership, or program development, there is room to shape your role around your interests.

    Why Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center?

    • With 1,680 annual clinical hours—equivalent to approximately 10 weeks off per year—you’ll have meaningful time away from the hospital to enjoy the people, places, and activities that matter most to you.
    • Practice in a sophisticated academic environment with the opportunity to care for complex patients while developing your clinical interests and expertise.
    • Enjoy highly competitive, shift-based compensation with generous overtime opportunities and premium pay for shifts beyond standard clinical hours.
    • Teach and mentor the next generation of physicians, contribute to program development, and participate in service-line growth—all within a supportive and collaborative department.
    • Whether you’re interested in developing a subspecialty focus, taking on a leadership role, expanding your academic portfolio, or simply becoming an outstanding clinician, we’ll support you in building a career that fits your goals.
    • Moving to the region? We offer up to $15,000 in relocation assistance, based on mileage, to help make your transition easier.

    Live Well Outside the Hospital

    • Experience stunning New England fall foliage, snowy winters, beautiful springtime, and warm summers.
    • Hiking, skiing, boating, biking, and countless other recreational opportunities are close by.
    • Enjoy welcoming New England communities while remaining within easy reach of vibrant cities, dining, arts, and entertainment.
    • Excellent schools, family-friendly communities, and a strong sense of community make the region an ideal place to call home.
    • Take advantage of museums, live music, collegiate athletics, local events, and a thriving cultural scene for all ages.

At Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, you don’t have to choose between challenging medicine and a fulfilling life outside of work. Join a team where your clinical expertise is valued, your professional interests are encouraged, and your time matters. Come see what a career in academic anesthesiology can look like when you have the opportunity to do meaningful work—and still have time to enjoy where you live.
