CITY OF KILLEEN POSITION DESCRIPTION

Animal Control Officer

Ensures the safety of both citizens and animals with knowledge and enforcement of rabies control, animal welfare, shelter operation and citizen welfare regarding Animal Control

The employee will have the responsibility of:

• Consisting inspections by patrolling the City for animal violations; investing neglect or other complaints; responding to citizen complaints; scheduling inspections; touring the building; noting violations of code, researching to locate owners
• Issuing citation and violations by compiling inspection reports
• Providing customer service to the public by developing and implementing community and school education programs
• Working an assigned shift, responding to emergencies after hours
• Maintaining contact with Police and Fire personnel to coordinate investigation activities
• Logging all calls and handles inquiries from the public pertaining to animal ownership and ordinances
• Preparing and carrying out euthanasia and rabies examinations

The work environment will require the employee to:

• Be in situations that are subjected to animal bites, vicious and/or aggressive animals and communicable diseases from animals
• Exposed to chemicals used in disinfecting facilities
• Be in moderate noise to loud environments

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent
• Two (2) years of related experience in handling and care of animals, security, law enforcement, code enforcement, or military law/code enforcement, preferred
• One (1) year experience in an animal shelter environment, preferred

Special Requirements:

• Must have a valid driver license by date-of-hire
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license by 90 days of hire
• Basic Animal Control Officer Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
• Euthanasia Technician certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
