SCHEDULE

\t\t\t\t\tDays off and shift schedule vary depending on operational needs; start time is typically between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.; Hours are limited to the allocated budget for each fiscal year but may not exceed 900 hours in a service year.

DUTIES / JOB DESCRIPTION

\t\t\t\t\tThis temporary keeper will be assigned as a Demand Keeper within the Children's Zoo section and may also be assigned to other areas of the zoo as needed. This position requires the ability to work effectively in a variety of fast-paced, detail-oriented situations. The Children's Zoo includes a diverse range of animal care responsibilities, including the Contact Area and the

\t\t\t\t\tChildren's Zoo string, which includes pinnipeds.

\t\t\t\t\t The ideal candidate should have a strong background in animal training and husbandry, be comfortable with public speaking, have excellent communication skills, maintain a positive attitude, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

\t\t\t\t\t Daily responsibilities will include routine animal care, cleaning, feeding, behavioral observations, and enrichment, as well as participation in multiple animal training sessions throughout the day.

\t\t\t\t\t The keeper may also be responsible for occasional public presentations.

\t\t\t\t\t The successful candidate must be adaptable and able to prioritize tasks while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and animal welfare standards. SCUBA certification is desired.

\t\t\t\t\t This is an at-will exempt intermittent position which can be terminated at any time without cause and a temporary assignment and employment ends on June 30, 2027.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

REQUIREMENTS

\t\t\t\t\t1. The equivalent of one year of full-time paid experience (2,080 hours) in the care and

\t\t\t\t\tmaintenance of exotic animals with a facility similar to the Los Angeles Zoo whose core

\t\t\t\t\tfunction is the exhibition of a variety of exotic animals; or

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

2. Successful completion of the Animal Keeper Training program conducted by the Los

\t\t\t\t\tAngeles Zoo; or

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

3. An equivalent program at an accredited school or college providing classroom and field

\t\t\t\t\twork on the basic structure and function of exotic animals; basic nutritional

\t\t\t\t\trequirements; recognition of the symptoms of animal diseases; sanitation measures;

\t\t\t\t\tand aspects of animal behavior; or

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

4. Current status as an Animal Care volunteer with the Los Angeles Zoo; or

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

5. Current employment as a Special Program Assistant II in the Commissary or Education

\t\t\t\t\tSpecialist with the Education Division; and

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

6. Must have a background in caring for exotic reptiles/amphibians/fish and invertebrates,

\t\t\t\t\tand a willingness to work in cramped hot spaces with a team.

7. Must possess valid CA Driver's License at the time of hire.
