About the Role: Nextgen Biologics in Alachua, FL, is seeking a dedicated, passionate Animal Care Technician I to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge medical technology that can be life-saving while providing exceptional care for animals in a dynamic lab environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide daily husbandry care for aquatic animals, including feeding and water maintenance, along with documentation
Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to supervising staff
Maintain clean and sanitary animal housing areas in compliance with facility standards
Assist staff with animal handling and basic procedural support
Accurately document animal care activities, observations, and inventory records
Ensure compliance with IACUC protocols, USDA regulations, and institutional animal care guidelines
Perform routine facility maintenance tasks including cage washing and equipment sanitation
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred with coursework in biology or animal science
1 year of animal science experience or ALAT certification preferred
Prior experience with aquaculture, animal care, husbandry, or laboratory settings is a plus, with the ability to handle animals safely and humanely
Familiarity with or willingness to learn IACUC regulations and animal compliance standards
Basic computer skills including Microsoft suite of products, ability to use measuring equipment and scales, knowledge of water chemistry principles
Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
