JOB SUMMARY

The Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI) is a developmental behavioral practice and an affiliate of Hamilton Healthcare System, Inc. (“HHCS”).  ASCI was created as a responsive entity to meet the medical and psychiatric pediatric care services needs for children with developmental delays and/or the behavioral issues related to those delays within Dalton, Georgia and the surrounding region.  Additionally, the ASCI will provide Physical, Occupational, Speech and Feeding therapy services to the same pediatric population.

The Registered Behavioral Therapist (RBT) will work under the guidance and supervision of a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) and the psychologist and/or physician.  Applicants will deliver ABA intervention directly to children using a variety of methodologies including, but not limited to naturalistic teaching, discrete trial training, pivotal response training.  Playfulness.  This individual must have an ability to genuinely connect with children and a passion for children with developmental delays.

The Behavior Technician must maintain adherence to the RBT task list as outlined by the Behavioral analysis Certification Board (BACB), including; engage in daily parent communication, communicate effectively and respectively with peers and supervisors, maintain client and company confidentiality and dignity, apply constructive feedback accordingly, maintain professional boundaries with parents and caregivers.  Additionally, the RBT will work closely with the BCBA to help manage psychosocial aspects of chronic and acute conditions by providing individual and family therapy and education to promote safety, understanding and good mental health.  He/she will participate as a active treatment team member, demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the life cycle and demonstrate an understanding reflective of the patient’s current status, age (chronological an dysfunctional), diagnosis and specific needs when devising and implementing treatment,  The RBT will also work with families to modify behavioral disorder caused by delayed or hindered development. 

The RBT  may work in the ASCI, in the child’s home or another location where they assist in the treatment of various mental health issues, particularly autism, brain injuries, and developmental delays.  The RBT will monitor the progress of individuals under their care and collaborate with family members or other care providers to determine how to best address long-term individual care goals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent required.  Psychology degree preferred.

Certification:  National certification as Registered Behavioral Technician required.

Experience: Experience with young children on the autism spectrum is  preferred. 

Skills: Excellent communication skills. Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of age appropriate patient needs. Ability to be adaptable in multiple environments.  Current BLS or obtains BLS within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Minimal physical effort, high level of mental effort in terms of concentration, crisis situations and dealing with stressful patient relationships. Requires some standing and walking and extended periods of sitting throughout the day.  Applicant must be physically able to lift children, run behind children and walk up and down a flight of stairs multiple times daily.  Material preparation, cleaning and organization will also be involved.  Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.  Must be emotionally stable and able to adapt, learn, and problem-solve.  Able to bend, lift and push.

Pleasant environmental working conditions with frequent interruptions.  Individual must be flexible in their approaches to deal with stressful conditions and challenging patients and families in an outpatient care setting.
