Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a curious, results-driven Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Manager to own the development, implementation, and optimization of AWS content visibility across AI-powered answer engines including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini.

As an AEO Manager for AWS Search Marketing, you will have the opportunity to improve how AI answer engines discover, interpret, and cite AWS content.

A successful candidate will be an advocate for AEO best practices and well-versed in what it takes to optimize a multi-thousand page, high-traffic marketing website for AI answer engine citation and visibility. This role requires a proven track record in content optimization, a deep understanding of how large language models retrieve and surface information, and the ability to contribute to governance and operational rigor in a fast-moving space - supporting the codification of best practices, recommending process improvements, and helping connect a central strategy team with distributed marketing teams. Strong analytical skills to develop strategies grounded in data, and interpersonal skills to influence across teams and drive adoption of AEO practices, are essential.

Key job responsibilities

Be a guardian for content quality and AEO best practices, continually raising the bar for machine-readable, citation-worthy content and AI answer engine discoverability.

Educating marketers and content authors on AEO best practices - including structured data, schema markup, and content formatting that optimizes for AI retrieval.

Partnering with marketers and content authors to develop and implement content strategies that grow AWS citation share across AI answer engines.

Providing support to technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure new site features and/or content adheres to AEO best practices (e.g., machine-readable structure, third-party citation signals, entity disambiguation).

Supporting AEO governance by contributing to organizational standards across testing protocols, scaling criteria, best practice codification, measurement & reporting, and tooling.

Work with the AEO team to build a library of documentation and articles that educate the organization on AEO best practices and the evolving AI answer engine landscape.

Performing prompt-based research and data analysis (e.g., benchmark testing across AI models) to make the case for projects and their prioritization.

Monitoring and adapting to the rapidly evolving AI answer engine ecosystem, including changes in model behavior, retrieval mechanisms, and citation patterns.

Our focus on the customer and applying best-in-class search and AI optimization practices results in a test-and-learn culture that seeks continual progression. We seek to accomplish this in a fun, collaborative environment that encourages sharing of knowledge, learnings, and wins!

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
