Job Description
TITLE: BEHAVIORIST
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services/Supervisor(s) of Special Education
SUPERVISES: Students
JOB GOAL: To support the district's instructional program by facilitating
students' attainment of social and emotional growth consistent
with the goals set forth by the individual education plans (IEP).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) certification or
evidence of coursework toward appropriate certificate
Valid New Jersey teaching/school psychology/social
worker/LDT-C endorsement per N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-12 required
Successful experience working with children with special needs
Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and
school personnel
School Psychologist experience preferred
Knowledge of ReThink First and/or ABA Programming
Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. Citizenship or
legal resident alien status
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may
find appropriate and acceptable
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works cooperatively with all schools in district
Reports to, and consults with, the Director of Special Services
on an ongoing basis
Consults and collaborates with the Child Study Team on an
ongoing basis
Schedules regular consultations with classroom teachers
Behaviorist
Provides professional development to targeted staff, on all
aspects of school programming with special educational
programs:
a. Delivery of Instruction
b. Behavior Management of Students
c. Data Collection [Applied Behavioral Analysis]
Develops IEP goals and objectives and uses paraprofessionals
to assist with implementing goals, as appropriate
Develops related behavioral goals
Consults with staff to assist parents regarding students'
behavioral goals
Prepares and presents parent workshops
10.Assists case managers in guiding parents in acquiring services
from the Division of Developmental Disabilities [DDD]
11.Provides Social Skills Training for students
12.Assists, upon request by Director of Special Services, in the
development of Functional Behavioral Assessments [FBA] and
Behavior Intervention Plans [BIP]
13.Remains updated on matters regarding behavioral management
strategies and programs to be used with MD/Autistic students
such as Applied Behavioral Analysis
14.Assists in the design and implementation of staff development
as outlined by the Director of Special Services.
15.Provides consultation to school staff and representatives of
community services and agencies with reference to students
who are experiencing social and emotional difficulties
16.Interprets behavioral assessments for school staff and parents
17.Serves as a consultant to administrators and special services
staff on student behavioral issues
18.Provides support to students, staff and administrators during
school crises, as needed
19.Attends evening programs (i.e., Back to School Nights, ABA
workshops) annually
20.Carries out their job responsibility in a professional manner and
to the best of their ability
21.Performs additional responsibilities as identified with the
Director of Special Services
22.Carries out such other professional duties as may be assigned
by the Superintendent and/or his/her designee
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10-month position, salary and work year pursuant to OBEA collective bargaining
agreement.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state
law and the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
