Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health, behavioral and academic support to students in grades K-4
  • Provide direct counseling services for identified students
  • Provide consultation and support for faculty & staff to meet the needs of identified students, including managing student referrals from School Counselors
  • Serve on a Wellness team to manage the needs of all students
  • Partner with families to support student wellness concerns
  • Consult with outside resources when a student's needs expand beyond the services of the school counselor
  • Plan for and facilitate social skills groups focused on socio-emotional skill development appropriate for students in grades K-4
  • Assist school leadership to assess and address student needs
  • Consult with school leadership regarding student behavior concerns and develop and facilitate the implementation of behavior plans as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Principal
  • Assist in daily school operations including the smooth running of arrival and dismissal
  • When applicable, participate in the school's RTII process to set behavioral goals
  • Provide crisis management response and intervention outside of school hours as required

Counseling Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

  • Experience counseling students in an urban school preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of tiered systems of support including the delivery of Tier 1 SEL Curriculum and supports.
  • Familiarity with the state and federal legal regulations governing special education, Section 504 and Section 51A
  • Clinical experience with students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral issues.
  • Understanding the impact of trauma on student learning and social emotional functioning.
  • Understanding of behavior management techniques and methods including date collection, functional behavioral assessments, and implementing behavioral intervention plans if necessary.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa is required

Additional Requirements:

Three to five years of experience as a School Adjustment Counselor or School Social Worker preferred

Proven organizational skills

Excellent interpersonal relationship skills

Demonstrated communication skills

MA DESE Educator Licensure - School Adjustment Counselor or School Social Worker required

Pay Range

  • $61,788 to $94,614 depending on experience and licensure
