Mission Statement

The mission of the Danbury Public Schools Health & Nursing Services Department is to protect and promote the health and educational success of students, thereby enhancing the quality of life for students and the school community. This is accomplished through the advancement of professional school nursing practice within a comprehensive school health program focused on prevention, early detection, health education, and resolution of health-related barriers to learning.

Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs selected nursing tasks and functions under the direction and supervision of the Registered School Nurse and the District Health & Nursing Services Coordinator. The LPN supports the health and safety of students by assisting in the delivery of healthcare services and contributing to student health assessments through the accurate collection, documentation, and reporting of data.

This position follows the school year calendar and is governed by the terms and conditions of the Danbury Nurses Union collective bargaining agreement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides healthcare services to designated student(s) in accordance with established care plans • Administers prescribed medications in compliance with district policies and state regulations • Implements specialized healthcare procedures as authorized by a healthcare provider and outlined in the Individualized Health Plan (IHP), including but not limited to: • Suctioning • Pulse oximetry monitoring • Administration of oxygen • Gastrostomy tube feedings • Assists in responding to medical emergencies and health-related incidents • Provides first aid and basic nursing care as needed • Accurately maintains and documents student health records • Communicates relevant health information to the supervising Registered School Nurse • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to FERPA, HIPAA, and district guidelines • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the role of Licensed Practical Nurse

Qualifications

Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Connecticut Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience preferred; pediatric, pediatric home care, or community health experience strongly preferred Current CPR certification Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality Strong organizational and communication skills

Salary: Salary and benefits in accordance with the Danbury School Nurses Union collective bargaining agreement. (Current annual salary: $43,646.38)
