Middle School Math Interventionist - 2026-2027 SY

Position Summary

The Middle School Math Interventionist provides targeted academic support to students in grades 5?8 who require additional assistance in mathematics. The interventionist works collaboratively with classroom teachers, administrators, child study team members, and families to analyze student performance data, design and implement evidence-based interventions, monitor student progress, and support improved student achievement aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

The position focuses on strengthening foundational math skills, addressing learning gaps, supporting differentiated instruction, and assisting in the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.

Qualifications

  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate required
  • Middle School with Subject Matter Specialization: Mathematics in Grades 5?8 and/or Mathematics Certification preferred
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of evidence-based mathematics instructional practices and intervention strategies
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and benchmark assessments
  • Knowledge of MTSS/RTI frameworks and progress monitoring practices
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Principal, Director of Special Services, Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction

Job Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Provide targeted small-group and individualized mathematics intervention to students identified through district assessment data, benchmark assessments, teacher recommendations, and MTSS/RTI processes
  • Develop and implement evidence-based intervention strategies aligned to student learning needs
  • Support students in developing mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, computational fluency, and conceptual understanding
  • Differentiate instruction to address varying academic readiness levels and learning styles
  • Utilize instructional technology and intervention resources to support student achievement

Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring

  • Analyze student performance data including state assessments, benchmark assessments, formative assessments, and classroom performance measures
  • Monitor student progress regularly and maintain accurate intervention records
  • Assist administrators and instructional staff in identifying trends and instructional needs through data analysis
  • Participate in data team meetings and contribute to instructional planning discussions

Collaboration and Coaching

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention supports with core instruction
  • Support teachers in implementing best practices in mathematics instruction and differentiation strategies
  • Participate in intervention planning meetings, I&RS/MTSS meetings, and other collaborative problem-solving teams
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and intervention supports
  • Work collaboratively with counselors, CST members, related service providers, and administrators to support student success

Program Development

  • Assist in the development and refinement of district mathematics intervention programs and supports
  • Recommend instructional materials, assessment tools, and intervention resources
  • Support implementation of district curriculum initiatives and instructional goals
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to mathematics instruction, intervention strategies, and student achievement

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, or designee

Terms of Employment

  • Ten-month position
  • Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement and Board policy
