    Applicants for this position will work to promote students' personal, academic, and social growth in the educational setting; and develop students' knowledge of the opportunities and requirements of his or her social environment. Applicants must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, work well with middle and high school students, and have good oral and written communication skills.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Counsels students on an individual basis regarding personal problems related to such areas as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
    • Provides individual and group counseling to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns.
    • Provides immediate support in crisis situations.
    • Counsels students in course and subject selection.
    • Counsels students in order to plan, explore, and evaluate post high school education.
    • Obtains and disseminates career and post high school education information to students.
    • Counsels students in order to plan, explore, and evaluate career interests and choices.
    • Remains abreast of current developments, new trends, and new information in guidance and counseling, career and post high school educational opportunities.
    • Orients new students to school procedures and the school's opportunities for learning and engagement.
    • Maintains the accuracy and confidentiality of student records and provides student information to other schools, colleges, potential employers, and other governmental agencies according to Board policy.
    • Helps to identify students with special needs and makes appropriate referrals based on those needs.
    • Makes recommendations to colleges and scholarship agencies.
    • Develops good working relationships with families and confers with them as necessary.
    • Aids in the administration and interpretation of the district testing program.
    • Provides input to administrators and staff on matters of student concern.
    • Participates in threat assessment meetings when requested by a school administrator or designee.
    • May be assigned as the 504 & I&RS Coordinators for their assigned school(s)
    • May be assigned as the Anti-Bullying Specialist, conducting investigations are required by state legislation and board policy.
    • May conduct HIB investigations throughout the district as needed in the case of a conflict of interest.
    • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
    • Remains abreast of current developments, new trends, and contemporary interpretations within their professional field.
    • Performs other duties which may be within the scope of their employment and certifications as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee.

    Applicants must possess:

    • NJ School Counselor Standard Certificate
    • Proof of New Jersey Residency
