SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

A School Attendance Coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and productive learning environment by ensuring consistent student attendance. The primary purpose of this position is to monitor, analyze, and improve student attendance rates, thereby maximizing educational opportunities for all students.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline.
  • PA Certification as Home and School Visitor (HSV) or School Social Worker Educational Specialist preferred.
  • Background in Education, Social Work, or Counseling preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing education and compulsory school attendance.
  • Computer literacy (e.g., Student Information Systems, software applications such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, email).
  • Valid U.S. issued driver's license and safe driving record.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collects, analyzes, and presents attendance data to identify trends, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and inform decision-making for school improvement.
  • Ensures adherence to school and district attendance policies, as well as state and federal regulations concerning compulsory education.
  • Maintains accurate, confidential, and up-to-date attendance records and related documentation.
  • Investigates the root causes of absenteeism (e.g., health issues, family challenges, disengagement, transportation problems) and work with students, families, and school staff to implement solutions.
  • Develops, implements, and manages programs and strategies to improve student attendance, which may include direct contact with students and families, home visits, and referrals to counseling or social services.
  • Initiates and coordinates truancy prevention efforts and, when necessary, facilitating referrals for School Attendance Improvement Conferences, court hearings, community services, or other legal entities in collaboration with other members of educational team.
  • Acts as a central point of contact for attendance-related matters, fostering effective communication among students, parents, teachers, administrators, and external agencies.
  • Educates the school community (students, staff, parents) on the importance of regular attendance and its impact on academic success.
  • Actively encourages students to attend school daily and on time, understanding that consistent presence is fundamental to academic success.
  • Meets regularly with attendance team to review student data and programming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
