Occupational Therapist

Requirements:

  • NJ Licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • NJ Department of Education School Occupational Therapy Certification required.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder in educational settings preferred.
  • Functions as a member of the Child Study Team as needed.
  • Conducts screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations to determine eligibility and need for school-based occupational therapy services.
  • Provides direct and indirect occupational therapy services in individual and group settings.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary evaluations and eligibility determinations.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors occupational therapy goals and objectives within students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborates with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and parents to support student participation and success in the educational environment.
  • Assesses and addresses fine motor, visual-motor, sensory processing, self-regulation, self-help, and adaptive skill needs.
  • Recommends and supports the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation, including therapy notes, progress reports, evaluations, and Medicaid billing documentation, as applicable.
  • Provides interventions to improve fine motor coordination, strength, dexterity, and functional classroom performance.
  • Provides instruction and support in activities of daily living (ADLs) and school-based functional skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sensory processing and sensory-based intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of oral motor development and its impact on functional participation, as appropriate within the educational setting.
  • Participates as a collaborative team member and demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains records and submits reports in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Collaborates with speech-language pathologists and other team members to support students utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems when appropriate.
  • Participates in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other student support meetings as required.

Salary: Following the established BTEA salary guide the minimum starting salary of BA Step 1 is $57,940.
