What You'll Do Salem Academy Charter School seeks an excellent AP Psychology and Government Teacher for our High School AP Government, AP Psychology, and Civics classes. We are looking for a teacher who is committed to reaching all students, raising achievement through a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and supporting a school culture of excellence and joyful learning.

The ideal candidate has experience with standards-based grading and is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community. The AP Psychology and Government Teacher at SACS will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their principal:

Working with and for Students:

  • Teaching 4 sections of High School History
  • Aligning curricular standards with state guidelines
  • Collaborating with Special Ed. and ELD teachers to support students with diverse learning needs
  • Building and maintaining strong school culture centered on achievement
  • Implementing common academic and behavioral procedures to ensure a structured, respectful, and achievement-oriented school
  • Inputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management system
  • Monitoring and analyzing student progress through standards-based assessments
  • Advising students through weekly Connections class
  • Hosting Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year and communicating regularly with families
  • Supporting, planning, and co-leading Service-Learning projects
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission
  • Participating in weekly professional development sessions (e.g., Curriculum Teams, workshops)
  • Participating in weekly Form Meetings (e.g., grade level teams)

Working with and for Families:

  • Participate in the two remaining Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences
  • Communicate regularly with families about academic and social progress
  • Co-host IEP meetings

Working with and for Colleagues:

  • Build and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievement
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission
  • Participate in weekly professional development sessions
  • Participate in weekly grade-level team meetings
  • Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Demonstrated subject matter competence and a sound understanding of the Common Core and Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum
  • Background clearance.

Preferred, but not required, to apply:

  • Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL preferred (MTEL completion required in first year);
  • Are multilingual, including in Spanish and English;
  • Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum;
  • Have similar life experiences as our students;
  • Excitement about integrating academics with service work;
  • Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students.
