About this Position

The Honey Beekeeping Research and Extension Educator provides leadership in apiculture research, education, and outreach programs that support sustainable honey production, pollination services, and community development. The position integrates applied research with extension programming to serve beekeepers, farmers, youth, schools, and communities across Oklahoma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement applied research trials in honeybee management, pollinator health, forage resources, and honey production systems.
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops, field days, webinars, and hands-on training for beginners and advanced beekeepers.
  • Provide technical assistance on hive setup, colony management, honey harvesting, swarm control, and equipment use.
  • Build partnerships with schools, nonprofits, producer groups, and government agencies.
  • Prepare annual plans of work, progress reports, and impact statements.
  • Supervise student interns and other staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field.
  • Experience in beekeeping, apiculture, pollinator research, or agricultural extension programming.
  • Effective communication and teaching skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel statewide.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field.
  • Experience in beekeeping, apiculture, pollinator research, or agricultural extension programming.
