We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to support the execution of multiple commercial projects in both public and private construction sectors from preconstruction through closeout. This role offers hands-on exposure within a true design-build environment, working closely with Project Managers, field teams, and clients to drive successful outcomes.

Client Details

We are a third-generation, family-owned general contractor and construction manager with over 50 years of experience in New Jersey. Today, we operate as a forward-thinking design-build firm delivering projects across commercial, industrial, multifamily, and life sciences sectors. We partner with leading developers including Brookfield, Link Logistics, Kaplan Companies, and Shadowbrook Development, delivering projects ranging from $500K to $50M, with approximately 90% located throughout New Jersey. As our design-build pipeline continues to grow, so does our use of construction technology from Procore and drones, to emerging AI tools.

Description

Project Coordination & Execution

  • Support Project Managers in managing 3-5 projects simultaneously (depending on size and complexity)
  • Assist with subcontractor coordination, procurement, and day-to-day project execution
  • Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project schedules
  • Support both office and occasional field operations, including pre-bid walkthroughs

Preconstruction & Estimating Support

  • Assist with budgeting, scope development, and value engineering efforts
  • Support estimating team with bid follow-ups and subcontractor outreach as needed
  • Review drawings and specifications for coordination and completeness

Documentation & Project Controls

  • Maintain organized and accurate project documentation in Procore and related systems
  • Assist with invoice tracking, cost management, and reporting
  • Prepare meeting minutes, logs, and internal updates

Client & Team Coordination

  • Interface with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates
  • Build strong relationships and, at times, serve as a face of the company in client interactions

Closeout

  • Assist with punchlists and turnover documentation
  • Support final project delivery and closeout processes

Profile

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Have 1-5+ years of hands on construction experience, ideally in the field
  • Have exposure to a mix of project management, field operations, and estimating
  • Possess a team-oriented mindset with a "do whatever it takes" attitude
  • Demonstrate humility, professionalism, and a positive approach to challenges
  • Be adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Be highly organized with strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Execute tasks effectively as directed by Project Managers / Project Executives
  • Build strong internal and external relationships

Day to Day Expectations

  • Primarily field based, upcoming project in Long Branch, NJ
  • Occasional office presence (typically 1-2 days a month as needed) in Edison, NJ area
  • Typically supporting 1 project at a time, under 1 guidance of 1 lead Project Manager
  • Work hours generally 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with flexibility based on workload
  • Ability to flex schedule (e.g., early mornings from home or finishing work remotely when appropriate
