Physician Assistant - Cardiothoracic Surgery

Job Details:

• June through ongoing engagement with inpatient and outpatient responsibilities
• 
  
• Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with 30-minute lunch included
• 
  
• 0.5 FTE position requiring 10 shifts per month
• 
  
• No call required; possible weekend rounding once per month (Saturday/Sunday, 4 hours each day)
• 
  
• Daily OR coverage responsibilities include endoscopic vein harvest and first assisting
• 
  
• Inpatient rounding responsibilities include management of postoperative patients, writing notes, placing orders, removing surgical drains and pacing wires, discharges, admissions, and consults
• 
  
• One formal clinic day per week including seeing post-op patients, new patient consultations with surgeon, patient education and surgical preparation, and answering outpatient phone calls
• 
  
• Patient population includes cardiac surgery patients: CABG, AVR, MVR, and TAVR; approximately 150 open hearts per year
• 
  
• Volume of 6 to 8 patients per day
• 
  
• Support staff includes other Cardiac PAs, office staff, and 1 MD per day
• 
  
• EMR system: EPIC
• 
  
• Required certifications: Board Certified Physician Assistant, BLS, ACLS, active PA license, and PA DEA
• 
  
• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of cardiac experience required; proficiency in Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) using Venapax and Maquet systems required
• 
  
• Minimum candidate commitment of 2 weeks per month

The facility utilizes EPIC as its electronic medical records system and performs approximately 150 open heart surgeries annually, reflecting a high-volume, specialized cardiovascular program.
