APP- NP or PA - Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)

FT - varied shifts (am and pm combined shifts)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) team in a renowned hospital in New York. This position offers an opportunity to work with critically ill patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgeries and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, and respiratory therapists. The ideal candidate will have experience in critical care and a passion for providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment & Management:

o Perform thorough assessments of critically ill cardiothoracic patients, including history, physical exams, and ongoing evaluations.

o Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab results.

o Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for patients in collaboration with the attending physicians and healthcare team.

o Provide continuous monitoring and management of complex cases, including post-operative recovery, ventilation support, and hemodynamic management.

  • Procedural Support:

o When complex privileging is obtained the ability to peform central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation/extubation, chest tube placement.

o Provide post-procedure care and patient education, ensuring proper recovery and addressing potential complications.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

o Work closely with attending cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care.

o Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and support regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge processes.

o Attend daily rounds to discuss patient progress, concerns, and updates.

  • Clinical Leadership & Education:

o Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, residents, and fellows, providing guidance and education on clinical practices within the CTICU.

o Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical research efforts within the unit.

o Stay current with advancements in critical care medicine, particularly cardiothoracic care, and engage in continuing education.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

o Master's degree in Nursing (MSN), Physician Assistant (PA), or equivalent advanced practice provider (APP) qualification.

o Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Acute Care. Physician Assistant (PA),

o Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), with a focus on cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery preferred.

  • Skills & Competencies:

o Strong clinical skills in critical care management, with a deep understanding of post-operative cardiothoracic patient care.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

o Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.

o Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail and providing compassionate care.

Salary Range

USD $74.67 - USD $93.00 /Yr.
