Our client is seeking an
Application Cloud Engineer to support and enhance mission-critical, cloud-based applications and infrastructure within AWS. This role will work closely with development, DevOps, operations, and security teams to maintain highly available, scalable, secure, and resilient production environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong AWS infrastructure experience, hands-on Kubernetes and EKS expertise, automation skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex production environments. This position also participates in an
on-call rotation supporting 24/7 production systems.
What You'll Do- Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, IaC
- Provision, upgrade, and manage Amazon EKS clusters and node groups
- Support EKS networking, including VPC CNI, security groups for pods, and ALB/NLB ingress controllers
- Use kubectl to manage Kubernetes deployments, services, ConfigMaps, secrets, RBAC, and other resources
- Deploy and support containerized applications using EKS, ECS, Lambda, and Amazon ECR
- Monitor and troubleshoot production systems using AWS CloudWatch and other observability tools
- Deploy applications across development, staging, and production environments while maintaining stability and consistency
- Troubleshoot deployment failures and improve CI/CD pipeline performance and reliability
- Perform automated health checks using AWS CLI, Lambda, and scripting
- Partner with development and DevOps teams to improve application resiliency, stateless architecture, and fault tolerance
- Enhance container environments through autoscaling, rolling deployments, upgrades, performance optimization, and observability
- Support feature branch testing, merge request validation, and artifact promotion workflows
- Implement pipeline security controls, including automated code scanning and approval gates
- Remediate operating system, container, and dependency vulnerabilities
- Orchestrate failover and restoration of ECS/EKS services, Lambda functions, databases, and supporting infrastructure
- Test and document regional failover procedures, recovery playbooks, and operational runbooks
- Support compliance with RTO and RPO requirements
- Diagnosing and Resolving production issues involving cloud services, containers, databases, and CI/CD pipelines
- Improve incident response, escalation procedures, and operational workflows
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and improve alert accuracy to reduce unnecessary on-call activity
- Document incidents, changes, and operational metrics
Required Qualifications- 8+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, 6+ years with a master's degree, 3+ years with a PhD, or 12+ years with a high school diploma/equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of IT experience
- Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-based application deployment
- Strong hands-on experience with Amazon EKS and Kubernetes
- Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with Amazon ECR, ECS, Lambda, and container deployment strategies
- Proficiency with Python, Bash, YAML/JSON, Node.js, and Lambda functions
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD technologies and workflows, including GitHub and/or GitLab
- Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation
- Understanding of cloud architecture, autoscaling, load balancing, high availability, and fault tolerance
- Experience with monitoring, logging, observability, and alerting technologies
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
CertificationsAWS or other relevant cloud certifications are desired, including:- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Associate
Preferred Qualifications- Additional experience with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and incident management frameworks
Security RequirementsCandidates must:- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
