Job Title: Application Developer
Job Description
The Application Developer provides multi-tier technical support for SCADA and industrial automation applications across cloud, mobile, and desktop platforms. This role focuses on incident triage, troubleshooting, and resolution, while ensuring reliable connectivity between field devices, gateways, and cloud platforms. The Application Developer collaborates closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to resolve escalated issues, deploy patches and updates, and support integrations with IoT devices and SaaS solutions. The role also contributes to customer onboarding, user training, and continuous improvement of knowledge resources, helping deliver a secure, scalable, and high-performing SCADA cloud solution.
Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 technical support for SCADA, industrial automation, and related applications across mobile, desktop, and cloud platforms.
- Perform incident triage, troubleshooting, and resolution for application, infrastructure, and connectivity issues.
- Monitor system performance, data flow, and connectivity between field devices, gateways, and cloud platforms to ensure reliable and secure operations.
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to resolve escalated issues and support the deployment of patches, updates, and new features.
- Assist with onboarding new customers, including configuration of user accounts, role-based access, and integration with existing systems and IoT devices.
- Support integration with IoT devices and supporting systems, including SCADA and industrial automation environments.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of incidents, resolutions, configurations, and processes in the software incident response system.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours incidents, system maintenance activities, and critical alerts.
- Assist in creating and updating user training materials, FAQs, and knowledge base articles to improve self-service capabilities and reduce recurring issues.
- Perform routine system health checks, backups, and failover testing in collaboration with infrastructure teams to ensure system resilience and availability.
- Work closely with a small team of software developers to support continuous improvement of SCADA cloud technology and related applications.
- Use Microsoft Office and other productivity tools to document work, communicate with stakeholders, and prepare reports as needed.
Essential Skills
- At least 1+ years of experience in application support, specifically in SCADA or industrial automation environments.
- Hands-on experience providing application support for SCADA and industrial automation systems.
- Strong understanding of SCADA concepts and communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, OPC-UA, MQTT, CoAP, and DLMS/COSEM.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Understanding of databases and the ability to write SQL or related queries for troubleshooting and analysis.
- Experience supporting Windows Server environments, including troubleshooting and basic administration.
- Experience supporting Linux environments, including troubleshooting and basic administration.
- Familiarity with SaaS solutions and supporting cloud-based applications.
- Experience supporting mobile and desktop applications in a production environment.
- Knowledge of IoT concepts and experience supporting IoT integrations.
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus.
- Basic familiarity with ITIL concepts or exposure to IT service management practices.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office for documentation, communication, and reporting.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote setting and collaborate with a distributed team of software developers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Security+ are a plus.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or Azure Administrator Associate certifications are highly desirable.
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS SysOps Administrator certifications are an advantage.
- Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA) or ISA/IEC Cybersecurity Fundamentals certifications are beneficial.
- ITIL Foundation Certification is a plus.
- Experience with industrial automation platforms such as LabView.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience maintaining and creating CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity best practices and secure configuration of SCADA and IoT systems.
- Experience with Azure Fundamentals concepts and services.
- Exposure to supporting SaaS-based SCADA or energy automation solutions.
- Interest in working with cutting-edge SCADA cloud technology that supports energy automation and remote monitoring.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset.
- Ability to work as a lifelong learner in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
