Software Developer Data Platform & Security
Contract engagement, 6 12 months
Role Summary
We're looking for a Software Developer to join a small, high-visibility team dedicated to two concurrent workstreams: a reporting platform migration and the buildout of a new security remediation practice. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on system health rather than new feature development keeping packages and platforms up to date, closing out technical debt, and implementing security fixes as directed by ***'s internal security team. Success depends on someone comfortable moving between focused engineering work and close coordination with a Technical Program Manager and a DevOps Engineer on a shared backlog.
This role sits within a core team of three: a Technical Program Manager, this position, and a DevOps Engineer, who together own a shared system health backlog.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Migration Engineering
Execute the engineering work to migrate reporting to the new target data platform, under the direction of the Technical Program Manager.
Build, test, and validate data pipelines to confirm parity between the legacy and target platforms before cutover.
Work from a clearly defined, prioritized backlog, picking up stories and epics as they're sequenced by the Technical Program Manager.
Coordinate with quality engineers and the DevOps Engineer on testing across the migration, and test directly when needed.
Flag risks, blockers, and timeline concerns to the Technical Program Manager as they surface.
Security Remediation Engineering
Implement security measures and remediations across My*** applications as directed by ***'s internal security team.
Turn CVEs and security findings into working code changes, partnering with the Technical Program Manager to keep the related stories well-scoped and ready for sprint.
Perform regression testing tied to security fixes, and assist with broader testing as capacity requires.
Communicate remediation progress and any complications back through the team's standard reporting cadence.
System Health & Technical Debt
Keep application packages, libraries, frameworks, and platform components up to date across services.
Identify and remediate technical debt across the My*** platform.
Develop, test, and maintain system functionality based on agile user stories drawn from the shared system health backlog.
Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) with the broader My*** team, with a personal backlog focused on system health and tech debt stories.
Keep story status, comments, and acceptance criteria current in Jira so the Technical Program Manager can maintain an accurate delivery plan.
Qualifications
3 6 years of software engineering experience.
Experience with both frontend and backend development.
Experience with NodeJS, Java, or a similar programming language.
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (e.g. React).
Experience upgrading dependencies, frameworks, and platform components across a live codebase.
Experience implementing security remediations or responding to findings from an internal or third-party security team.
Comfort working from a Jira backlog picking up scoped stories, updating status, and flagging blockers.
Familiarity with AWS services, particularly database and serverless backend management, including RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Lambda, and S3.
Familiarity with SQL databases.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with comfort coordinating closely with a Technical Program Manager and DevOps Engineer.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, tightly coordinated team.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with data platform or reporting migrations (e.g., Splunk, Snowflake, Sigma, or similar tools).
Exposure to security vulnerability management, such as CVE triage, or experience working with enterprise security teams.
Experience with Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, or similar application/infrastructure monitoring tools.
Experience with GitHub, AWS CodePipeline, or similar CI/CD tools.
Experience working on a cross-functional Agile Scrum team.
Engagement Details
Engagement type: Contract, 6 12 months.
Team composition: 1 Technical Program Manager, 1 Software Engineer (this role), 1 DevOps Engineer (working within a broader My*** delivery team).
Primary tools: Jira and Confluence (day-to-day use required), plus AWS and GitHub.
Location and reporting structure: Remote; reports to the Technical Program Manager on this engagement.
