Who We’re Seeking

Florida Realtors is seeking a Mid-Level Application Developer to join our Applications Development team and help build, enhance, maintain, and support the web-based applications that serve our members and staff across Florida.

This is a hands-on full-stack application development role with a strong backend/PHP focus. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in software development, application architecture, databases, APIs, and modern web development, along with the curiosity and problem-solving skills to work across both established and evolving technology environments.

You will participate throughout the software development lifecycle—from understanding business needs and designing solutions to development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support. You will work closely with the Applications Development team, business stakeholders, vendors, and internal clients to turn business requirements into reliable, secure, and maintainable technology solutions.

This role is well suited for a developer who enjoys more than simply writing code. You will have the opportunity to understand how applications support the organization, identify opportunities for improvement, modernize existing solutions, and contribute ideas that make our systems and processes more effective.

You will be part of a collaborative team environment where developers are encouraged to learn, share knowledge, communicate openly, and continuously improve their technical skills. • Applications and enhancements are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business needs.
• Code is clean, maintainable, secure, appropriately documented, and consistent with established development standards.
• New functionality is thoroughly tested and introduced into production with minimal disruption.
• Production issues are investigated thoughtfully, resolved efficiently, and communicated clearly to affected stakeholders.
• Existing applications are continually improved rather than simply maintained.
• Business stakeholders and internal clients view the Applications Development team as a knowledgeable, responsive, and collaborative technology partner.
• You continue to expand your technical capabilities and contribute knowledge, ideas, and solutions to the development team.

Essential Functions

• Perform software analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and production support.
• Develop and maintain web-based applications using PHP and modern web development practices.
• Design and consume RESTful APIs and web services.
• Work with relational databases to develop queries, troubleshoot issues, and support application functionality.
• Collaborate with the Director of Applications Development and cross-functional teams to define requirements, evaluate solutions, and successfully deliver projects.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to decisions regarding application architecture and implementation.
• Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and production issues and identify appropriate solutions.
• Develop and maintain technical and system documentation.
• Use source control and established development/deployment processes to manage application changes.
• Balance multiple projects, enhancements, support requests, and competing priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
• Communicate effectively with internal clients, business stakeholders, vendors, and technical team members.
• Evaluate existing applications and recommend opportunities for modernization, automation, performance improvement, or process enhancement.
• Continuously build knowledge of existing applications, development tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies.
• Participate in an on-call rotation or provide after-hours support as requested.

Important Candidate Information

Work Location & Availability

This is a hybrid position based in Orlando, Florida, with a requirement to work in the Florida Realtors office two days per week. Candidates must be able to reliably meet this in-office requirement as part of their regular work schedule.

Candidates who are currently located outside the Orlando area must be prepared to relocate to the Orlando area at their own expense and be available to meet the in-office requirement within approximately four weeks of accepting an offer.

This is not a fully remote position, and Florida Realtors is not considering candidates seeking a fully remote work arrangement.

What You Need

Qualified applicants will possess:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
• 4+ years of professional experience developing web-based software applications.
• Strong foundation in object-oriented programming and application development principles.
• Professional experience developing applications with PHP and an MVC framework.
• Strong working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• Experience developing or integrating RESTful APIs and web services.
• Working knowledge of modern frontend development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience using Git or another modern version-control system.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a development team.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in an established business environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• A commitment to writing maintainable, secure, well-tested, and well-documented code.

Required Technical Skills

Candidates should have professional experience with most of the following:

• PHP / Object-Oriented PHP
• MVC application architecture and frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, Zend, or comparable frameworks

• AJAX and asynchronous web development concepts
