Summary:

  • Location: Markham, ON
  • Duration: 12 Months
  • Work Mode: Fully on-site
  • Working Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday
  • Travel Required: Yes, 25% travel to US and Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer applications/specifications and understand the design of protection and control panels, single line diagrams, schematic diagrams, logic diagrams, control diagrams, and Bill of Materials.
  • Prepare customized test plans to ensure multi-function protection relays perform correctly.
  • Create relay setting files based on logic diagrams and coordination and protection study reports.
  • Upload setting files and set up communication, including IEC 61850.
  • Execute test plans using secondary injection tests and simulate complex control schemes.
  • Take full responsibility for assigned projects with minor support from Senior Lead Application Engineer.
  • Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in-house and at customer installations.
  • Provide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications.
  • Provide training, peer checks, and design support to other team members.

Requirements:

  • University degree or College diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in relay testing and creation of setting files for Multi-Function Relays.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications.
  • Experience in creating test and maintenance procedures related to factory and site testing and commissioning protection panels.
  • Excellent understanding of theoretical bases for all major protection principles.
  • Demonstrated team player with initiative to lead and mentor team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Customer-focused.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects.
  • Working knowledge of secondary injection test sets like Omicron, Double, or Megger.
  • Familiarity with standard work and documentation procedures of electrical utilities.
  • Interdisciplinary experience including metering, communications, substation automation, and integration.
  • Knowledge and experience with Company Digital Energy and 3rd Party Protection Relay products.
  • P.Eng Certified is an asset.
