The Application Solutions Engineer - Production Support provides dedicated technical support for a broad portfolio of Dierbergs applications and technology solutions. This role investigates and resolves production issues, including making application code and data changes when needed, while minimizing the amount of time the broader Application Solutions Engineering team must divert from new development.
This position goes beyond resolving individual incidents by identifying recurring issues and opportunities to improve application reliability, automate support activities, strengthen documentation, and reduce future support needs. Success requires strong troubleshooting skills, technical curiosity, good judgment, and the ability to work independently across both familiar and unfamiliar technologies.
What You'll Do
Production Support and Troubleshooting
Serve as a primary technical point of contact for production issues, working with end users, IT team members, business partners, and external vendor's IT teams to understand and resolve problems.
Independently investigate and resolve routine to moderately complex production issues with minimal assistance from the broader development team.
Read, understand, troubleshoot, and modify existing application code or data when necessary to correct production issues.
Use source code, documentation, logs, monitoring information, AI-assisted tools, and other available resources to investigate issues within both familiar and unfamiliar systems.
Take ownership of issues through resolution while recognizing when urgency or complexity requires quickly engaging additional technical expertise.
Develop, test, and take production fixes through established development, change management, and deployment processes with minimal assistance.
Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Management
Analyze production incidents to identify patterns and root causes, proposing improvements that eliminate recurring issues or make them easier to support.
Identify opportunities to automate routine support activities and improve application reliability, maintainability, monitoring, and supportability.
Work with the Application Solutions Engineering Manager to prioritize improvement opportunities and implement approved changes.
Maintain and improve technical reference material, capturing knowledge gained through troubleshooting to reduce future support effort and dependence on individual system experts.
Use AI-assisted development and troubleshooting tools, including Claude or similar technologies, to understand unfamiliar systems, analyze code, investigate issues, and assist in developing solutions.
Focus outside of active production support on reducing future support needs and improving existing production solutions rather than new project development.
Collaboration and On-Call Support
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users and collaborate with Application Solutions Engineers, Data Solutions Engineers, infrastructure teams, vendors, and other resources when needed.
Participate in the team's rotating 24-hour on-call schedule and respond to after-hours production issues during assigned rotations.
Remain calm and methodical during time-sensitive or business-critical incidents, assessing urgency and engaging additional resources when appropriate.
Work primarily remotely with periodic onsite responsibilities. Associates should be prepared to work onsite approximately twice per month as needed in the Chesterfield office.
