Position: Applications Engineer / BAS Programmer
Location: Remote with up to 15% travel

About the Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer / BAS Programmer to support the development and deployment of advanced building automation and controls systems for commercial, industrial, and mission critical facilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining programming, system integration, troubleshooting, and field support to deliver high-performance automation solutions.

The right candidate will work closely with engineering, project management, and field teams to turn mechanical and electrical system designs into fully operational BAS and controls platforms that optimize building performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, configure, and commission BAS/DDC control programs for HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Create controller logic, graphics, alarms, schedules, trends, and user interfaces
  • Configure BAS networks and integrations using BACnet, Modbus, and other open protocols
  • Support startup, commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting activities both remotely and onsite
  • Diagnose and resolve communication issues, controller failures, and programming problems
  • Interpret sequences of operation, MEP drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
  • Integrate third-party equipment including chillers, boilers, VFDs, meters, lighting systems, RTUs, AHUs, and power monitoring devices
  • Develop and maintain system databases, backups, as-built documentation, and programming standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, installers, and service teams throughout project execution
  • Support advanced system architectures including BAS, PLC, SCADA, and EPMS environments
  • Optimize system performance and assist with long-term controls improvements

Qualifications
  • Experience programming and commissioning BAS/DDC systems in commercial or industrial environments
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Delta Controls, Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Automated Logic, Distech, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of HVAC equipment and mechanical system operation
  • Working knowledge of BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU/TCP, networking, and device communication
  • Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in live building environments
  • Experience supporting data centers, healthcare, laboratories, or other mission critical facilities is highly preferred

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Delta Controls programming tools and certifications
  • Exposure to Allen-Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, or industrial automation systems
  • Familiarity with OT networks, servers, or virtual environments
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls, or related technical field
